Kubota bx 1870
I have read several threads where people discuss the pros and cons of the rops. Here is the deal.....I am gettng a Kubota BX 1870 this week. It has the foldable rops which will not work for me. Anyone with smaller fixed rops want to trade?:)

Greetings from Tennessee. Compromising safety for connivence is never a good idea. You might try the Kobota tractor forum here for feedback. Take care. -kid

Why will it not work for you?

Why will it not work for you?

Extended, the rops are too tall to go in my shed. Folded, they make my tractor to long to go in my shed. They also will hit on the trees on m property. I will take them off. Just hoped that I could find a shorter rop to put back on. I do not see how it would sacrifice safety at all.

Are you able to put in the laid back position? Thats what I do to get it in the garage, otherwise it's to tall....

Could you cut a slot in your shed? I understand you probably wouldn't want to.
If possible I'd rather cut a few inches out of them and trust your welds than go without FOPS altogether. Safety police may say all or nothing
Is there a way to get it to fold more. Modify the stops if possible? Pictures would be good.

In that position I cannot close the door of the shed behind the tractor. If it folded all of the way down it would be o.k. I was told by a dealer that kubota is comming out with a better rop that folds down.

I looked at the unit at Kubota.com , it sure does look tall for a smaller tractor.., you need a bigger boat, I mean shed..lol

ETA, use the ROPS and wear your seat belt..

the bx1870-1 just got released. the ROPS folds all the way back and flat against its self when folded. I just got a bx2370-1 and mine has the new ROPS. (has a nice new floor mat too). You CAN get the 60 series ROPS at your dealer from whole goods for about $340 shipped new and it is a direct replacement. I already priced one for my tractor because i hate folding and unfolding for all my tree's and clothes lines. Probably comes down to dealer preference though on whether they will install it or not for you and if it could void warranty on certain things since the ROPS has a serial number same as the tractor. I posted side by side pics of the 70 vs 70-1 tractors over on my tractor forum.com just do a good search to see the differences. Good luck!

Howdy. I have the 1870 and would really like narrower ROPS. I looked for your pictures but couldn't find them do you have a link? Do you know if the newer ROPS are narrower? It appears they are but I can't really tell from the stock Kubota picture. Thanks.

This is a long running issue, many threads and opinions.

I have a BX24 and 90degree folding ROPS. Same issues, clearance, mowing under trees, etc. It's that high to protect me when the back hoe is in use, sitting higher in the seat.

When I do any ground work the ROPS stays on. But most of the time (most hours use) is mowing. So I take off the ROPS for mowing and put it back on when needed for safety. My lot is level so I don't worry too much about mowing without the ROPS. I do not recommend no endorse this but it works for me.

But nearly every stinking time the ROPS is on, even though I have plastered it with yellow/black striped safety tape, I manage to ring my bell on the thing, especially working on the rear PTO area. Bad design so I am most happy to see that they've changed it to fold all the way down on the -1 models.

ANY ground work, load carrying, etc ROPS is on and in place. Safety first, not an afterthought.

Talked to my dealer today. He is trying to find out if the 1860 ROPS, which ironically is still pictured on a BX on the Kubota website, will fit on my 1870. It is much smaller and does not even have to fold. If so, I will buy that model ROPS and put it on so I can remove the gigantic ROPS that came with my 1870. I've probably already ruined a half dozen trees from the ROPS.

I am trying to find someone who owns an 1860 that can take measurements for me of the rops mounts. I have been unlucky so far trying to find out if the 1860 will fit on my 1870. Appreciate any help.

Did you ever find out if the 1860 rops will fit the 1870?

Removing the ROP bar is like removing the blade guard on a table saw. Sure your not supposed to, but everybody does. In many cases you have to. Just be careful. The ROPS rule is "with ROPS removed (or folded down) no seat belt. With ROPS installed/up, use the seatbelt".
