Kubota orange paint

Yea, I hear ya varmint. I used the HF guns and still have them and use them for primer work on auto/bike stuff but finally broke down and bought a SATA digital HVLP gun to do paint work. Night and day difference.

Where is an easy source for xylene? Can't say I have ever noticed it on the shelves anywhere but have never been looking for it.

You can't get xylene off the shelf in California anymore.
Not sure about where you are.
I used Industrial Maintenance Coating Thinner purchased at Home Depot.
It is a substitute.
It works like a champ.
Thin the paint 20 to 30%.

^^ That figures. Also why I could never live there and remember it in November. I'm in LA so no troubles here.

I'll look around for it.

Xylene: paint store had it, NAPA had it, but Lowes is where I bought it- $18 or so a gallon. Home Despot didn't stock it. California- you gotta be a EPA OSHA equipped sealed shop to have it, or something like that. I suppose we all will be dealing with air quality problems sooner or later, if not already. I try to be responsible, and only use small amounts as necessary. I have yet to use a water based finish that I think is the equal to solvent based.

A good paint for the money that holds up well is Nason. I took one of my panels in and had a store color match. Worked out great as a strong paint and mixes and spray's very well.

Sorry to resurrect and old thread but this discussion seemed to be right on par with what I am trying to resolve. I have some attachment pieces to paint and am wanting to spray with an HVLP gun with OEM Kubota paint. I am seeing that Xylene or Acetone are the recommended thinning agent? Would actual auto paint reducer not be an advised option? And most importantly what is the ratio of the different reducers? I am in the south so it is getting hot already, hitting low 90's, if temperature is a considering factor on the best thinning agent.

I had some reducer and the main ingredient in it was Xylene so that is what I have been using. I need to pick up some Xylene at Lowes. I have been mixing the paint with 8:1:4. With out hardener it scratches easily. It dries pretty quick. The biggest thing I would be worried about is the humidity. If it is too humid it will turn flat.

I have painted several things recently.

What did they charge you for that? Last time I got some Nason Paint it over $40 a quart. Napa sells Martin Senour paint and they have Kubota Bright orange II. I got some and it was way off. They took it back and the guy tried to match some from a splotch I gave them but it is too red.

For $40 a quart, I'd just buy the Kubota factory paint. You can get it for $38/qt. from some dealers.

Sorry for the delay I think I paid about $100 for paint(custom mix) and a gallon of reducer. Ya I could of bought the Kubota paint but would of had to wait for order. This was something I needed to paint for that weekend. And as far a color match goes.......it will only be as good as the person mixing and the other guy spraying. Ive seen lots of paint jobs botched by both sides.

Last week I used some paint I purchased at the local Kubota dealer to paint a forklift adapter. It needed thinning, and there was no mention of what to use on either part A or B, so I just used some reducer I had on hand. Thinned OK, but that paint took two days to dry. I'm in Kalifornia, and know Xylene isn't available anymore (you'll hurt yourself with that, so we're taking it away from you for your own good). Now I know why the paint took so long to dry!

BTW, out here Tractor Supply sells paint in a spray bomb that matches both new and old Kubota oranges pretty well. At least for the first year; after that it fades miserably and looks awful.

I have a question I just got a 3pt hitch wood splitter I sanded it all down to bare metal should I prim then use the Kubota paint or just the paint?
