New BX25D Owner - Boom Cylinder Problem

The dealer dropped off my new BX25D at my house Saturday morning. Saturday and Sunday I put about 6 hours on it digging out boulders and rotten stumps where the yard meets the edge of the woods. After taking a break Sunday afternoon, I went back out late Sunday afternoon to do some cleanup work, but the boom cylinder on the backhoe would BARELY push the boom away from the tractor. All the other hydraulics worked - boom cylinder would pull the boom back toward the tractor normally, boom would swing side-to-side, dipperstick worked, bucket would articulate, etc.

I am a new tractor owner. Any help with what might be happening with the boom cylinder would be greatly appreciated. Again, the boom will BARELY push away from the tractor, but will pull back toward the tractor normally.

I would start with the simple stuff, check hydro fluid level and re-seat the hydraulic hose couplers. Cycle the back hoe and loader through all it's range of motion in case maybe there's air in the line? Beyond that I'm not much help.

On my B2620 with a backhoe I have to make sure the 3 point hitch lever is in the correct position, I don't know if that is the same on your tractor though, check your manual about that.

Re-set the QD. If the other function work fine, then the connection is good.

Look for mechanical problem, also.

Install a hyd pressure gage in a tee at the IN port of the BH.

It will show any pressure the BH can develop for any cyl. If the cyl can not develop the operating pressure, then the cyl seals could be leaking

Use the gage to monitor and trouble shoot the hyd system.

If you install the gage in the FEL IN port, you can monitor the complete hyd system.

Like everyone above stated, start with the easy stuff they mentioned. All I would add is that you make sure you're not actually engaging any other function but the boom extend function at the same time. Those sticks operate in all four directions and if you're off slightly in the direction you push the stick, it will bleed off pressure in another direction, but so slight you hardly notice it. Probably not your issue, but be precise in only engaging the boom extend next time you try it.

The good news is it's under warranty, so if you need the dealer to look at it it's covered. Hopefully they have a mobile truck that can just stop by for diagnosis and minor repairs if needed. Good luck.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Much appreciated. Yes, thankfully, the dealer has a service truck! If half an hour of trouble shooting doesn't correct the issue, then I'll call the dealer.

Yea...I would think that if everything else is working like it should then I would say that the pump is doing what it is to do. (have you taken anything off yet...backhoe, loader) I know there are 3 hoses back in the back....I usually have trouble with one. I also always have trouble with the last loader line as well....no matter what one it is....same with the grapple. Don't know if there is pressure in there or not but something to think about.

I also assume no fluid on the ground that you can see. Everything on that machine runs off of the fluid, power steering included.

But from what you are saying, with everything else working ok, I am guessing something with that one cylinder...or the line or valve...or something specific to that cylinder.

But I am a total noob like you so take that for a grain of salt. Sorry for your machine, its new they will get it worked out for you.

I don't know if this will help. With the motor off, work all the controls to the backhoe vigorously. This is the step you would take if you were going to remove the backhoe. It relieves the pressure. I'm thinking, with a new tractor and new fluid some air lock might of took place. After working the controls, restart the engine. Let it warm up for at least 5 minutes then retry.

Ran into a small problem the other day with my BX25D's backhoe boom control...had just started the tractor and was warming up and I usually go around and move all the levers to lift the devices from where they settled and the boom in/out stick was like a wet noodle...looked around for a leak and found none so I pulled the rubber boot up and looked inside the black plastic housing that covers the controls and saw that the linkage bolt had backed out and was completely separated from the stick. Off came the plastic housing and re-threaded the bolt back into the stick and all was well after that...perhaps your bolt is backing out somewhat, leaving some play in that control?? Just something to check.

Good thought. Had that exact issue with my FEL joystick when the tractor was new. I actually called the dealer for service and they sent a truck out. When the guy got there, he removed the screen under the steering wheel and a nut fell out. Boy did I feel stupid having called for service before looking at it myself. The service dude must have thought I was one of those city slickers or something.
