Good Morning all! 41F here now and going to a high of 49. winds SSW 10-20mph
Overcast with showers at times and it is raining right now.

I was up at 3:30 Denver time, which is pretty close to my normal time at home...

The lady feeding my chickens called yesterday to say the ducks were swimming INSIDE the chicken shack, that the back half of the shack was flooded and it was still raining...

I've been worried the beavers excessive engineering (they have way more than doubled my pond into the neighbors and my properties) which has had the water level higher than at any time ever, lapping less than a foot from the top of the earthen dam that is holding the entire pond in... I afraid if they crest the home-made dam (prior owner built it with a small backhoe), that we will lose the entire pond...

The roof also leaks on the house. I am praying I do not walk into a disaster tonight when I get home...

David, we've had 3.8" of rain total over on this side of the North Anna including another cloud burst early this morning. Fields and roads have been flooded. Hope the spacing out of the storms has allowed your place some runoff time before each of the next ones hit.

While out feeding the birds this morning, I stepped on a mole hill, one in which there was an opening a couple of feet ahead of me. The ground is so saturated that as I stepped on the hill, water shot up about a foot into the air like a geyser.

David MFW there are beaver flood control devices that can be installed to keep the water level from rising too high. It doesn't get rid of the beavers but it will prevent flooding. They can be real nuisances in some situations. An internet search should turn up some examples. One type that is easy and not expensive is a wire cage that wraps bank to bank about 5 feet out in front of a culvert.

$20K give or take is the estimate for my field project. I decided to go with that. The contractor is someone who has done work for me before and I know it will be nice when finished. He is going to de-stump a couple of sloped areas then dig out whatever dirt is there, then fill the slope with as many stumps as possible, then cover with a layer of dirt. The slopes are too steep to use as they are, so I'm not giving up much useful space. It will be nice to skip the stump burning and working around the piles while they dry out.

Good luck with the weather for those in the storm path. Sounds like today should be the end of it at least.

Oh, and the North Anna River has risen from 5 feet at the gauge to 26 feet in the last 2 days.

Hope everyone survived the bad weather, we didn't get anything severe at all here. Mid 70's and humid today, just the way I like it! Starting a new job today, after 37 years of running my business and 3 months of retirement, I decided retirement is not for me! My best friend owns a car dealership and wants me to come to work in the office, collecting payments, writing service tickets one day a week, altogether about 4 days a week. I'm ready!

42 here, cloudy, with rain coming later. Finally getting my yard compleatly cleaned up. I have some damage on one small barn, that should get done this week. One thing or another, it's always something!!
