TODAYS SEAT TIME

One of the nicer days we have had in a while. Made some firewood. Since I made the trailer hitch for the winch I can get everything out to the landing in one trip.

I have the same splitter and truth be told, I Love it. With that said, looks like you have a modification or two. What did you do? Is that the original ram? Did you just throw a pressure gauge on there?

You just got my wheels turning. Does anyone add a temperature gauge to ANY hydraulic system?

This is the first splitter I have ever used. All my life it has been a 6 or 8 lb maul, hammer, and wedges. When I started looking for a splitter and saw they went from 12 to 37 ton, I had no clue what I needed. So when I got this one last spring I put a pressure gauge on it out of curiousity. To my surprise most of my 18" hardwood splits easily at 6 ton or less. I have not yet seen it go up to anywhere near the full 3000 psi ( 22 ton ) on a piece of wood I was trying to split in a sensible manner. Maybe it's from all the years of using a maul that I can read where the chink is in a block of wood ??

I bought it used. The hitch and flimsey kick stand were mangled up. I put on a good hitch and one of those cheap jack stands from TSC which works very well and is easier on my back. There is quite a bit of tongue weight to be dealing with the kick stand. As far as I know the ram is original.

It is the older model so the little table they have for sale won't go on it. So I made a table with plywood and a 1/16" skin.

Next I want to put an easily adjustable stop on it. It's in the thinking stage so I am open for suggestions.

My "seat time" didn't involve much seat other than using the RTV to transport my fuel can and string trimmer to the pond. I spent about 3 hours trimming down the grass around the pond where spring fed water has been standing all year. With the rains every few days, I couldn't get in with the mower. After the pond area was done, I went along the fence line, then along the drain ditch that the overflow from the other pond runs. My back was certainly feeling the effects of it also after about the 4th refill of the gas tank on the trimmer.

I told the wife that I likely just stalled off any more rain for a month or more now that all the wet areas are trimmed up. Had a cold front move thru yesterday evening and this morning we are back in the mid to high 40's.
Next project will be to plant my garden which I have been holding off till after May 1st.

I did, at the output from the reservoir. It is showing the ambient temperature.

It is for the loader hydraulics only and never got over 160 degrees. It also as a pressure gauge. Pictures from July, 2005 when I was putting it together.

From 2009 with a heavy load.

IT'S YOU!!! Lol, I did t recognize your splitter until you added photos. I have your photos on my computer. I was taking ideas for when I built my catch / table.

It may not be pretty, but it is very functional. I used it today as a matter I fact to split a couple pieces for a buddy.

I like the gauge. Was it easy to install? I haven't added any inline gauges before.

See, now I'd like to checkout the temp on my Ztr, tractor, splitter etc....

Hey Xfaxman,,
I noticed you made 'extensions" on your loader arm's.
Look's like they are bolted on, how are they working out for you and
is there a reason why you didn't weld those plates on.

Those pictures were taken during the put together nine years ago.

I had to extend the arms to clear the front of the TORO.

The 3/4" bolt goes in the loader arm and can be removed if I ever want to put the loader back to original.

After I got the extension length correct and the cylinders mounted, I removed the small bolt and welded that end.

Nice work, and a great idea.

Thanks, it is a very handy machine. :D

Found a picture that shows the welded end of the extension.

Thank you, that pipe on your cylinder, if it is a pipe ! (the one with two hose clamps holding it)
is that just for a stop? Why are the clamps there...

Yep it's called a stroke stop. Made from tubing with the same ID as the cylinder rod. It prevents the cylinder from hitting the dashboard that is underneath of it.

I cut them to the needed length, then slit it in half lengthwise. The clamps hold it together and keep them from sliding on the rod.

Fixed a flat on the RFM, got it all greased up, the MF greased up & all fluids checked, and did my first mowing of the back field.

/ TODAYS SEAT TIME #3,315
Did the 100hr service, except for the back wheel torque. Seems I need about a 12 inch extender bar. Hooked up the finish mower and mowed for 2.5 hours. Noticed that somehow I rolled the solid rubber tire off of one of the wheels. So, I took a trip to Tractor Supply and got the only tire they had in stock, got a three piece extender set (3, 5, & 10 inchers), and decided to get another grease gun while I was there.

I was in TSC the other day, and I noticed I left with more items than were on my list. But it was all stuff I needed. Well, I either needed it or wanted it.

I wish I could say the same for 'our' TSC,
they never have anything in stock, especially the flyer deals, it's more of a joke
in our part of town.
And looking at their flyer "on-line" is frustrating, the guy who set this up has
no clue how to do it.
Sorry, my blood pressure just goes up with the mention of them....lol

Thats quite the machine, Xfaxman,
have you thought of giving it a nice coat of paint, and perhaps building a cab,
something like the BobCats have.

/ TODAYS SEAT TIME #3,319
Xfaxman, I'm looking at this add, this guy has one of these for sale, $2800

Looks similar to yours, it's 4X4 diesel with kubota engine,
is this something similar to yours?

Thanks, I guess you clicked the link in my signature to see everything it will do.

No, I wouldn't want to paint it, it is not a show tractor! :D

It was 14 years old with faded paint, when I got it, 10 years ago.

Still using it now.

If I build a cab on it, it would need heat and air.

There are a lot of Cozy Cabs for sale online, but I would have to make a door like a skid steer has.
