A good reason for grill protection

Well, I have been clearing my woods for three years and have been very carefull to ensure I did not get a limb that would come thru my root grapple and into my grill. I was pushing limb piles to pick up and move to the big pile and unfortunately an unseen limb rolled up under the grapple and straight into my grill, oil cooler, radiator and fan.

I had plans to weld metal grating over the front bars but opted to just put metal screen instead.:ashamed::ashamed::ashamed:

For those who have KTAC insurance, they were easy to work with, one call to them this morning and the dealer called me 10 minutes later to set up a time to take a look at it on my property tomorrow. Thinks he can do all the work in my shop, so no transportation fees. That make it a lot easier since the radiator is pushed back into the fan making running the motor a little difficult.

Finally received the quote for the damage, $2355.00, glad I have KTAC insurance. It looks like it will take a few weeks to gather the parts, appearently they do not stock a lot of radiatiors, oil coolers and fans at the warehouse.

It is fortunate that you have insurance coverage.

I just replaced the grille on my L5030. I was also doing some clearing when a root on a stump took the grille out. I was lucky that the damage stopped at the grille and nothing else had to be replaced. A brush guard is definitely on the list of things to do.

YIKES! My fan looks like that too. I was clearing some brush when the tractor started to lose RPM. It was making a **** of a noise and a puff of smoke came out from under the front. I backed out and drove up to the concrete driveway and went through all the motions with the FEL and there was no liquids on the concrete. I didn't see any visible damage so I went back to work. I didn't see the fan until I did an oil change. I guess I got lucky and it was just a stick that got in there from underneath.

This has me wondering. My Bobcat tractor also seems to me to be way underprotected for work in the woods or brush hogging in rough areas. There are hydo lines that can easily be ripped off, filters exposed as well as the grill. Why is that? Why don't the manufacturers build these machings for the work many of us do every day. It seems sort of strange that we have to build our own guards and protection for a tractor to do what I consider to be normal tractor work.

I guess I am asking too much.

Good Greif Charlie Brown......First I read the tree fell on my Kubota, now this. And the Kubota Insurance covered it both times.

I had originally put a rider on my home insurance to cover the tractor....but after reading the tree fell story I called Kubota and got my tractor covered with them.

Now don't take this personal, I called Kubota last week....before you posted so this is not aimed at you. But I asked the Kubota lady about the tree fell. Lets say if I cut down a tree...it falls on the tractor....you cover that....she said yes. Then I asked....so you cover stupid....she laughed and said yes...she did not use the word stupid, but said if an accident even of your own making would be covered.....even if (I) do something stupid...she giggled again and said yes.

I know I am going to do something stupid.....it is only a matter of time. That Kubota insurance is well worth it.

From everything read on TBN, it seems Kubota insurance would never make any money unless the premiums are sky high!!!

I also discovered a cracked grill in my Kubota B26 after clearing some brush. I was lucky that it didn't do anything else other than push in one section of the grill. I removed it and mixed up some JB Weld, applied it generously to the back side after aligning the pieces as best I could. It is barely noticeable now. I too need to put some screen on the brush guard.

I built a brush guard and skid plate for my M9540. After a year's use, based on the scraped paint, they've served their purpose.

Now that is grill protection!:thumbsup: I will be adding something similar and I have lots of stuff under my L45 that needs guarding. Never worried about anything with my skid steer.
