EPA issue ban on wood stoves

/ EPA issue ban on wood stoves #161
Check the article on alternative-heating.com for a better "neutral" account of what the new EPA rules state. They are not coming in black helicopters to take your 20 year old wood stove. It is easy to spread panic and false information on the web and get everyones underwear in a wad. So check several sources or snopes or something before you contribute to the problem instead helping it.

This thread was started specifically to get underwears in wads and a lot of people took the bait. Most people who take bait like this don't wanna know that it's BS, they enjoy the bait. They're looking for it.

If you say "thats BS" then the response is: "its not as bad as: (some other BS)".

There is no desire for truth.

and some folks want to just bury their head in the sand also. I'm not saying the EPA is sending out black helicopters to take away people's wood stoves but anytime I see some of the wording that is present in EPA material like this, I began to wonder where this could go down the road. I'm not going to be naïve and think that some factions of the EPA would indeed love to ban woodburning and that worries me what we could see in the future. It doesn't have to be a direct ban but can happen simply by regulating the industry to the point it becomes cost ineffective to heat using wood burners. The nature of govt almost always seems to be about grabbing power. That seems to be a problem with both political parties. As far as people getting their "underwears in wads" over this? Well, I could give the example of the Affordable Care Act as evidence of people getting their underwears in a wad and being told they have nothing to worry about when indeed there has been plenty to worry about and plenty more to come!

Here's an example

THIS IS IN RESPONSE TO BABY GRAND - GO AND READ THE EPA RULES AT THE LINK ABOVE "OLDER STOVES CAN NOT BE RETROFITTED AND MUST BE DISPOSED OF". I HAVE A WORK SHOP WITH A FIRE PLACE INSERT AND 2 FIREPLACES IN MY HOUSE EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE NOT USE FOR PRIMARY HEAT. IN THE COUNTRY AREA THAT I LIVE IF THE WIND BLOWS MORE THEN 20 MPH I LOSE ELECTRIC. THE ONLY BACKUP HEAT I HAVE IS WOOD.

WHAT IS NEXT CHARCOAL BRIQUETS FOR YOUR GRILLE. SOMETIME, SOMEHOW THE PEOPLE NEED TO RETURN TO THE VALUES THAT OUR FORE-FATHERS SET FORTH IN THE CONSTITUTION AND THE BILL OF RIGHTS!

Corky what you wrote is ONLY for someone who wants to make an old stove comply with new regulations. This is to inform commercial businesses (who would re-sell non-complying stoves) that it's not allowed. Nobody is going to mess with the stoves in your shop. You're taking the bait.

Elsewhere on the EPA website it states that there is no requirement to upgrade or change an old stove.

Those who are truly patriotic challenge those who spread BS, whether its a person or a business. Every problem we have with our democracy is made worse with BS.

I hope your fireplaces can be airtightly sealed. If not you are losing heat through them things as fast as you can add the heat to the house. When your fireplaces are not being used light a cigarette and hold it next to the open fireplace and notice where the smoke goes.......right up the chimney. Way back when Franklin fireplaces were the rage I held a cig up to mine and when I saw where my heat was going, the Franklin was gone.

I agree this was a troll post and the troll succeeded very well.

Thank you for that voice of reason. So disappointing to see so many members reacting with vitriol to specific politicians, political parties, and the EPA. We in NC are getting a serious taste of what happens when regulations are relaxed. Read about Governor McCrory (former Duke Power employee), Duke and recent coal ash spills. We have rivers and water supplies compromised and more in danger as a result of a "hands off" approach to regulation.

I despise regulations also but since many people are unethical, immoral, greedy and just scumbags in general we need regulations to keep these people in line. For example, Duke Energy and that Freedom Industries in Virginia felt it was in their best interests to pollute or take the chance on polluting by cutting corners and saving themselves money. Now they have created a huge mess and guess who will have to pay for the cleanup? Taxpayers, anyone? These companies instead of paying for the cost of their "mistakes" will use the legal process to go bankrupt and stick the unsuspecting public with the bill and the doesn't include the fisherman, boaters, swimmers, etc that use the river commercially and recreationaly that have been totally screwed over by these unethical, immoral and criminal companies.

Unfortunately they have to be kept in line with regulations or everybody but the polluter gets the bill.

I would also like the see the CEO, the rest of the big titles at that company and the Board of Directors being forced to drink that polluted water with their meals.

I actually read all of the regulations and they do limit ones ability to use a wood stove in near future. If you can not sell a used stove and the regulations are too strict for manufactures to MAKE a stove that is compliant then the wood heating will effectively be gone. They also make it known that it is ONLY THE BEGINNING of how much can be regulated for output of stoves. It also opens it up to OTHER means of emissions regulation be it using wood in your BBQ or on the patio or bonfire..

It is total overreach of government agency that is NOT aloud to right LAWS as that is only CONGRESS and STATE legislators (in their states) that can do that. It should be banned and ALL of these 3 letter agencies should be banned from this type of behavior.

If fact it would be no different that the ATF righting a rule that no new guns could emit only projectiles of .01mm or smaller in size...
