BR-Dang you're tough on equipment.......any one that has an anvil that they want broken call BR. Charlie

Well I don't know about that Charlie .. To my defense the first two was the el cheapies ... The third was a $21 unit a nice one reversible for internal and external .. Even came with interchangeable points ... As I squeezed down on it the ring didn't budge .. The points just bent together!! The ring is not "froze" I can rotate it around .. It's just a tough ring .. Hoping for better luck today!!

If you can put the point stems in the holder so the stems are gripped closer to the points and have enough depth to reach the holes in the ring, it might help.
Sometimes they make the point stems a lot longer than needed and they bend if gripped on the far end.

A couple pin punches and vise gripes might be stronger than the plier pins.

That was the problem .. The points had to be out just far enough to reach the ring and that's too far .. Thus the bend .. Today I'm looking for a long nose tough one .. If not I'll need to get it out some how .. Maybe destroying the ring !!

I may try that, and see how it works. Then I can report back. And since what one reads on the internet is true, I will be crowned the next dictator of the USA, so y'all can begin sending me your money now, and groveling at my feet. I, like most in power, will be sure and remember who sent the biggest contributions to my "cause"! :D ;)

Ahhh .. I see .. Check is in the mail ... I'm. It good at groveling !!!

BR, can you weld the points on the handle of a sacrificial pair of cheap pliers. then maybe channel locks to squeeze the opposing end? I know strange, but may be stronger than the ring pliers you "broke"

If I don't find a suitable set .. Yes I'll build me something or just find a method of caveman removal and get another ring !!

I always used to tell my wife, "go ahead and fix supper, this is only a 20 minute job"
After a couple years of that she would reply, "Yeh, right, let me know when your done and degreasing your hands" :D

Reading this again.... Isn't the ring your talking about an internal ring?
Did you get two handles, one for external and another for internal?
It seems to me, if this is an internal ring that holds the cross arms of a U joint in place, your pins should have bent apart, if you were using the right handle with too much pressure?
I'll have to look at mine, haven't used them for years:confused2:

Here is the scoop: (An electrician was "helping me" and now has disappeared )
Synopsis:

200a service main for house. ran 3, 1/0 al to shop, 120' underground for 125a sub-panel (2 hot, 1 N). Waiting on my 125a breaker to put in house main.

I have a 200a panel (for the shop) which has the crossover connection between the neutral bus bar and the equipment ground bus bar. I have 2 8' ground rods.

Since I didn't run 4 wire (I was told since it was separated outbuilding, to run the 3 wires) Not sure if I just leave the crossover and connect all the circuits to the equipment ground? and where to I connect my ground rods? to the shop frame, equipment bus bar, or just to the panel box?

All metal building, set on concrete, so no ground through frame.

Dennis,
My ground rod runs to the spare ground strip in my barn breaker box. Just to make sure, I also ran a bare copper crossover jumper to the other sides ground strip. So all my grounds are tied together.
Of course, what do I know:confused3:, as I blew the breaker:eek: last Sunday first time I turned that breaker on to the shop lights. Then I rewired the switch correctly and all is bright.:dance1:

It is the big ring on the axle just behind the 4x4 hub it's about 1.5 diameter and it's inside about 3 inches .. I need to get in the two holes and the spread it so it comes off the axle .. When I get on it and squeezed to open is when things fail!!

Brandi, my box has the factory (removable) crossover bar that ties the common and equipment grounds together. IIRC, the setting of the crossover is determined if the buildings are together or apart and whether the service line to the sub-panel is 4 wire (2 hot, 1 common and one ground), or 3 wire (2 hot, 1 common then grounded at the new panel). Not sure if I need the crossover, or should have it disconnected.. I know the ground rods are more for surges, or lightning, but can also carry a fault back to the pole?? frustration:laughing:

Reminds me of a Snap On Tools slogan.............."We'd rather explain the high cost of our tools instead of having to explain why it broke".

Try Grainger.com You need dedicated internal or external pliers. Grainger should have what you need in size and length. FED EX overnight will have them there tomorrow morning...........for $$

If I don't have my own plane to fly to Oshkosh, I might take those passes! Still hoping for my own bird though. All of the "security" and TSA stuff sure puts a damper on some of the fun. I travel light, so mine would all be carry on. Screening takes longer. I want to be in the air. If I am on the ground, I want to be next to the vintage aircraft!

I don't know, I used mind so I could have more ground lugs. I do remember, now:rolleyes:, that when I put my 200 amp pole in and had SHECO out to change service, I had their guy look at my barn box and he said it was fine.:confused3:

Also for FYI.............each time I reply to a quote and want to use these guys...........:cool2::licking: and all their friends....................I have to ckick on "Go Advanced" to see them. When replying to Dennis' and quoting him...............they are always in plain view without hitting Go Advanced!:confused3::confused2::confused2:
