Guys,

I've been fortunate not to have the issues you have been seeing. Mine will change directions even still under power/moving. I have run bigger model NH's with power shuttle so I'm used to the motion. Due to that I tend to flip it fast and early. But of course mine may just be operating properly.

My complaints are 2 fold. Under load, like digging into a rock pile ... The tractor continues to dig forward for up to a second or two after lifting pedal pressure and flipping reverser. It's annoying and takes a lot to get used to.

I don't know how long you have had your 3050 CVT or how many hours on it but what you are describing is exactly how mine was when I first got it since then it has gotten progressively worse staying in forward when you least expect it longer delays while shifting etc. Just be aware and careful.

.
Finally, my 3pt lever floats down by itself Annoying and I hope it can be adjusted
Thoughts and feedback welcome

Attached is a diagram to stiffen up your handle/lever so it will not fall down. Unlike the diagram my Boomer took a M5 Allen wrench to adjust. Took less than 30 seconds to adjust. This is just forward of the right rear lift arm. Diagram compliments of my local NH dealership!

Thanks for the pic. Will adjust that next time I use it

Is the 3 speed tranny a factory installed option. I assume it is

I do not know whether the three range CVT transmission is factory install only. I would assume adding one to a two range unit would be quite a chore but then again I do not know for sure. Might be worth a call to your local NH dealer.

Mine came through as a 2 range and I upgraded it myself with an upgrade kit. I read in the operators manual when I first got the tractor about the extra features and asked my dealer about it. He sent the upgrade kit along with a programming/test plug special tool to me. As I remember it around $130 plus shipping. All I had to do was take left pod apart (3 bolts) remove the existing switches and decal. Install new decal and new switches all cables are marked and already there. Then use the special tool to change the transmission option in the software to "Deluxe". Step by step instructions were included. Took about 1/2 hour. The other benefit is the Special tool can be used to check/clear trouble codes' test switches, check and/or change other programming options, directions for its use can be found in the service manual.

PTO wouldn't even turn on just before major snow storm Saturday, so I used a DPDT (on/on) switch that I had (spare for snow plow) cut off the plug off one of the other bad pto switches I had and attached it to the toggle . It works most of the time with no problems other times if the pto doesn't turn on I cycle the switch quickly it will turn the PTO on and amazingly since I put the toggle switch in no 5080 codes yet just the same intermittent problem where it won't turn on sometimes (cpu issue I think) which I can get around by quickly cycling the switch.

Well, At least that is a improvement and will get you by for the time being but a customer should not have to go through so much on a new unit. Hope you eventually get things fixed by NH. I wonder if the OEM switches you have installed are not built to spec., throwing off the voltage and causing the computer to flag a problem?

I agree I also think there is a problem with the OEM switches, but I think there must be a problem with the cpu, software or both because sometimes it still won't turn on unless I cycle the switch quickly a few times. But what really amazes me even cycling it there is no 5080 code/lockup and that's what the ASIST's said would happen if I moved the switch to fast/soon. I didn't have one code 5080 lockup all day yesterday and I had to cycle the switch a few times. Hopefully they will get to the bottom of all the problems when it goes back or maybe I'll get real lucky and the field rep will fix it when/if he he comes here to see it. I hope to hear some decisions sometime this week of when and what is going to be done.

We bought a brand new pecan harvester years back and in the first month had to change out 4 chain sprockets with different sizes to make the unit sweep faster and weld on home made friction bars to allow a separator belt to run properly when wet. This was all done over the phone with consultation of the manufacturer. We later on found out this was a brand new design by the manufacturer and the following year they implemented all of our changes on their following builds. My Dad was really angry about us cobbling up a brand new unit here at home but we were in the middle of harvest season and had no choice. Luckily we were both pretty handy at machinery repair and amateur welding! I am still using the unit 37 years later....

It will save you some money if you do it yourself and save transport time/costs to dealer. I would stick to NH filters and hydraulic oil while your still under warranty. Getting to the fuel filter was my biggest challenge. I found if you lift the loader to highest point and support it(I cut pieces of angle iron to lock pistons extended),with the hood open you get to the filter from the front with a filter band wrench. There is a line on the back side of the fuel filter that is tough to get by but with a little patience you can get the band wrench around the filter retaining nut. Make sure you are careful not to lose the o-rings, new ones don't come with the filter. You can see the filter breakdown in section 7 page 7-14 of your operators manual. You don't have to worry about fluid lock while refilling the engine oil in this engine as the fill is down low on the front right not through the valve cover as in older ones.

The tranny upgrade.... Does it turn on all advanced features... Cruise, anti-stall etc?

I also did the 50 hour service myself. The carriage for the FEL, front glass on the cab and extra rigid lines to my extra remote hydraulics from front to rear made the job somewhat of a challenge but my age and arthritis was the real problem. For me it was a four Tylenol job! ;)

Yes it comes with some new switches and a decal but you need the special tool too so you can change the transmission program to deluxe which enables all the deluxe features.

This should explain it better.

I have those same extra remote lines to the front they add a lot more difficulty getting to the filters. I was wondering if there is some way to make that lower glass panel removable that would make it a lot easier getting to the fuel and engine oil filters and maybe the dip stick also.

While you have the transmission drained you might want to add the transmission heater it goes in the lowest point of transmission. I have one ordered $85 from my dealer so next time I change the trans oil I can install it. That way on those real cold days I can use it to rid myself of the "snow flake":) restrictions. Local power company is going to love me block heater and trans heater.

Heard from dealer. Kit for switches is 56 bucks. But he said the would do upgrade. Total between 150-200 bucks. Still cheap but I asked him to research the special tool for me. Would like to have that going forward. My question in all this is..... If it's a 56 dollar option, why even offer the basic tranny? Am I missing something? Is there any reason you would go back to basic mode?

My Boomer 8N with the first generation three range CVT has the same low ambient temp warm up period. In East Texas it's not a big issue. I have not had any issues with the transmission or PTO. The only time I use high range is for the preset cruise control which I have set at 3 MPH. One thing I did learn early on is to always run the hand throttle up to 1500-2000 RPMs. It makes for much better foot pedal throttle response with less jerky motion.
