"I once heard that there is a global conspiracy to raise third world living standards at the cost of the living standards of industrialized nations. Seems, this has been accomplished!"

Yep, it's called NAFTA, GATT, TPP, WTO or any other set of letters that refers to Free Trade agreements. All of these are sold as plans to lift the world while, in truth, they only bring the US down to 3rd world status.

Who are these people that are constantly and increasingly attempting to destroy our way of life? But maybe of more importance and relevance. How did these people get this power to affect such change, when MOST, it seems to me, are against this kind of thinking?

They are...............The enemy within & they exist because we let them....{we}(myself included) are guilty of standing by and letting this happen.

One thing... in the good old days my first computer cost several months wages... it was an apple// with lqp printer and two disk drives... about $3,000

Last computer I bought was $199 from walmart with windows 7

Also, the water bill was a few dollars around $7 and now Mom pays around $200... nothing has changed... still the same amount of water flowing through the same pipes in the same house.

I was told, that pick up trucks today despite some costing almost 100gs (here in Canada) have never been cheaper. I find this hard to believe.

I once heard that there is a global conspiracy to raise third world living standards at the cost of the living standards of industrialized nations. Seems, this has been accomplished!
In 1964 I sold a brand new plain jane Chev pickup, 6 cyl, 3 spd standard on the tree, standard steering and brakes, no radio for $2400.oo

Go ahead and try to pay that today, you will get laughed right out of the dealership, yet it was our tax dollars that bailed GM out.

When I went to school, a failing kid (me) didn't get promoted until he met the grade. I flunked grades 2,7,9. Nowadays the kids get promoted whether they can even spell their own name or not.

For sure Simple times, simple laws, not the suffocating laws and taxes we deal with today. Less people then, now it's absolutely a rat race.

OB...56... missed the draft by a couple of months. Almost joined the Army a few years later but changed my mind after being sent to Ft Polk Louisiana for a weekend(ROTC)....the late 70's was not good to the Army.

That $2400 equates to about $18,000 in today's dollars (CPI Inflation Calculator).

I don't know for sure, but you might be able to buy a new bare-bones pickup for $18,000 today. The bare-boned pickup of today is going to have a lot of features that 1964 model didn't have.:)*
