Hey guys I am new here and looking at an LS 4041. I bought a used TC33 NH last summer but wish I had gone a little bigger. My JD is too big for what I need and the NH is a little light and I would like a loader with more lift capacity. The price on the LS seems decent for the hp. I saw here that a guy in Rockford, Mich has one. Any suggestions?

I just bought an LS, still waiting for delivery. I started looking orange tractors and ended up buying an ls based on price, standard equipment the other guys charge extra for and LS has a good reputation on this site. I went with the r3039 just because it is a bit smaller than the 4041 but still has a good FEL capacity.

Thanks! I think I am going to sell both of my tractors, one too big and one too small and go with something in between. The LS seems to be a good fit. I have a 7 ft tiller for the JD, do you think the LS would run it?

That would be a stretch for the 4041. You might be able to get by with the 4047, same frame just more hp, but it is probably still too small for that tiller.

I bought the R4041H 3 months ago, I only have 37 hrs on it. I love it so far, haven't got to do much dirt work with it yet but It did a good job plowing the fresh 10" of snow we got last night! The dealer (Robinson Equipment) has been great, they picked it up for warranty work at 10:30 in the morning and delivered it back the same day at 3:30. I bought a 630# 7' Land Plane BB for it and it handles it well .I like the big R4 tires on the front. It has been starting real good in this cold weather were having, not much rattle or smoke. I use mine for plowing, firewood, moving dirt, etc... No mowing or ag work. I like that it came with the rear remotes. I have no regrets except I should have bought a tractor years ago.

I have my 2013 R4047 HST with around 141 hrs ... great tractor, but I may be selling it to upgrade to a cab. I'm near Imlay City. The LS tractors are going up in price, and the R4047's seem to be going for around $22,400 now. If you are interested, I may be able to save you some money off a "new" purchase.

I believe the 47 could handle a 7' tiller. It has 38 PTO HP. I use a 5' tiller and don't even know it's there.

Well guys, now I keep thinking up more questions. I too was looking at Robinson Equip. and they said the steering brakes are on the left side. Is that hard to to get used to? Does the the loader have a float position? I don't do any mowing or ag work either, just a large garden, and same stuff as Underdog57. TSO: Isn't the 47 bigger and heavier than a 41. I need to be able to trailer the unit from time to time and my trailer has a 6000 lb. capacity. I read on this forum that the seat does not tip forward and bottoms out on a good bump. True? Will a 5ft tiller cover your tracks? I'm sure I will think of more questions, that's it for now. Thanks for your help.

A 7' tiller would probably need close to 50 PTO hp to get full performance. You might get by with a 6' but would still be close.

Check with manufacturer of your tiller for specific HP requirements. Your soil type would also make a difference.

Good luck, the LS tractors look great. We are looking at their 50 and 65 HP cab tractors.

Yes the steering brake is on the left. I haven't used it yet. The loader does have float, mine works good. The seat does not tip forward, kind of a bummer but mine is garaged, I haven't noticed it bottoming out yet. The parking brake is in a stupid place, I thought I would hit my foot on it all the time but I guess you get used to it because It doesn't bother me at all now. One other little stupid design flaw is you have to tip the brush guard ahead just a very little to lift the hood, I don't know why, there is plenty of room up there (future mod project). You will need a 6' implement to cover your tracks. Ask away, this forum helped me make some very good buying decisions including buying the LS. I am looking for pallet forks & welder now and after reading TBN I know exactly what to look for.;)

The R4041 & 4047 are identical tractors. The engine is tuned up a bit for more power on the 47, that's it. Same weight, same dimensions.

The general rule of thumb for PTO implements is 5 pto HP per implement foot.... then you adjust that number if the task is more or less challenging. So, going by 5 HP per foot, a 7 foot implement needs 35 pto HP. Even if you jump to 6 HP per foot, that would require 42 HP ... so the R4047 with 38 pto HP would still be close.

I've only used my PTO for a post hole digger, 6' brushog, 5' tiller, and my wood chipper. The engine never seemed to notice any of those were back there.

But I've never used a 7' tiller on mine, so I can't say for sure.

-----------------
Tilting the brush guard forward takes all of 3 seconds ... no big deal.

Thanks for the info. I know some of these questions can be answered by the dealer, but I like to hear it from people who own them to get an honest evaluation. Upwards of 20,000 is a lot of money and I would like to make sure I don't regret my decision. Little things like the seat not tipping forward [no big deal] but nice to know. Do you have to set the parking brake to get off the tractor while it is running? Quite often on my NH I just drop the bucket or back blade. If the 4047 is the same size and weight as the 4041 I may be interested in one of those, a few more horses is always nice to have

I had started with a 4041 shuttle, put 50 hrs on it but didn't like the shuttle, so traded in & up to the 4047 HST. Had a HST prior, and will likely always go with HST. But like you, figured the extra HP was worth it!

The LS tractors are very good machines. Mine blew a headlight fuse early on, no biggie, and that's been it for 140+ hrs. Like I said I'm looking to upgrade to a cab, so that means I have to jump up to the XR series (tier 4) or look to another brand.

The ONLY complaint I really have about my LS is that I would like more loader lift height & dump clearance. This is likely not an issue for most people, but I have found enough times that for my work, I want more height. Also, in comparing different factory cabs, the new LS cab didn't impress me as much as some other brands.

But anyhow, that won't effect you since you're not looking for a cab.

Parking brake location: I didn't like it at first, but like anything, once you get used to it it's a non issue.

Seat: it doesn't fold up because it's a suspension seat, much better than one of those standard spring folding seats.

Brake to get off: nope, as long as the tractor isn't moving (pushing the HST pedals) you can get off without doing anything else. Otherwise, the seat safety switch will shut the tractor off if you're butt isn't in the seat while pushing the pedals.

Are you still thinking about the cab tractor? If so I may be interested in yours

I own an LS4041H, purchased new in September '13, with the Tier 3 motor and have no complaints. Just turning 50 hours.

The tractor with loader weighs about 5,100 pounds. My tires are not loaded. Pulling a 700 pound box blade, all 4 wheels will spin if it gets hung up. Turns a 12" PHD at 1,500 RPM no problem. Swinging a 6' rotary cutter through very tall grass was no problem (2,400 RPM ~ 540 PTO RPM), now maintaining is a breeze.

4-cylinder Mitsu motor is 2.5L; note that is a larger displacement than competitors. I like it being 'only' 41 horse as would seem the motor is under-stressed. Hydraulic GPM figure is identical to 47 horse so I'm glad I didn't bother; would just spin the tires faster? Loader rated at 2,500 pounds, 3pt 2,750 pounds (same as 47HP); seems well balanced for chassis. Really like the larger tires over R3039. Really like the HST tranny. 3 speeds have been enough for me. Cockpit is tight. Get used to it. Brakes on left natural for HST. Fuel tank could be a little more than 9+ gallons.

Paid $19,500 at Webster Country Tractor, Missouri. Would buy from them again. $3.5K cheaper than DK45, $5K cheaper than L series Kubota with much weaker specs. Better warranty.

Wish it was mechanically quieter (no sound deadening under hood). Wish cockpit was roomier (Simple mod to get an extra inch of seat adjustment - thx TSO). Wish it had articulated loader arms to keep the bucket parallel to ground when lifting (e.g. Kioti DK55). Wish bucket had more curl. Wish it had a tool box and a reasonable cup holder. Wish I was skinnier & just as pretty.

Thrilled I avoided the Tier 4 motor.

YMMV!

HaHa! That's a great write-up, Bob. The bigger R's (41 & 47) have been a big winner, but they do have a couple little Nits to Pick IMO, which you mentioned....would be nice if the seat could be moved back a little farther for more leg room, the engine is a little louder than some of the other Mitsu's, and OH HOW I wish they'd integrate a toolbox in there somehow. Some of those other issues are being addressed on the XR's, such as hand brake placement and bucket rollback.

To the O.P., we haven't tried running a 7' tiller on an R series either, but I wouldn't be nervous about trying it....especially on the 4047. Another dealer hooked a few of them up to their dyno and they all made 3 or 4 more HP than claimed.

/ R4041 buying advice #16
John, has that other dealer hooked up an R3039 to their dyno, if so how did it do?
