I recently purchased a new pickup. The older I get the more effort it takes to get up in the bed when necessary, not to mention worrying about breaking something jumping out. I decided to order an aftermarket bed step. I decided to go with the AMP Research product. It is simple; push it down for getting into the bed and push it back up into storage position when finished. It can be used with the tailgate either up or down.

I installed it this morning. It is very easy to install; took about 15 minutes. I think it is going to be extremely handy. Since everybody likes pics I have attached a few. They show the product out of the box, in the down and up position. Since the truck is new, and I am proud of her, I attached a couple of pics. She's already dirty but in this weather, how can you keep it clean?

This identical to the one that came on my 08 Nissan Titan. While handy I ended up taking mine off. It just seemed to always catch mud, snow, and ice. For how I use my truck it was more trouble than it was worth. But now that I am 40 I can see a difference than when I got it at 35. Maybe it's time it goes back on and I deal with the mud.

Climbing into my truck was always such a pain, then I started stepping onto the top of my rear tires, and pull myself up over the side of the bed. No step needed for me. That said, if you have back issues, the side method is harder on you. I hope your step works well for ya.

I've always just thrown myself on the tailgate...That might not be practical someday, but that's how I roll today.

Throwing myself around not quite as easy anymore, thus the step.

I would like to have one of those AMP research folding steps on my Z71, but at the price, I had to pass on them. I see the '14 Silverado's have a step built into each corner of the rear bumper, I'm wishing they had thought to do that on my '13 model.

Understand..I'm 47 and can still flop myself on my neighbors 2500 Ram tailgate with a 9" lift...Guess I'm good for the moment. :dance1:

Add 10 years, and you will do less "flopping" :)

What was the cost?

Everyone laughed when I bought my Ford 350 v-10 with built in tailgate step. Now everyone thinks it is neater than sneakers. They had some really feminine names for it when first introduced. It's a real life convenience for me.

At 54 I have been putting off the inevitable...
My F350 sits off the ground quite a bit...
I am 5'-7" and my short frame needs all the help it can get...
Years ago my dad bought one of these and I made fun of him for it...
Guess what???
One is going in the truck next week...
Aggravating but needed...

I put one of the AMP steps on mine and love it. Yes the price is outrageous but it is super nice especially when things are wet or snow covered. DiamondPilot mentioned the mud and he is correct. I added fender flares and contoured mud flaps and it solved that problem for me - (but I also don't 4 wheel my truck or anything like that)

I've installed several of them, also use the electric step running boards. They make a side bed step also. You couldn't run fast enough to give me a set of the oval or whatever tube running boards. You get what you pay for and everything I have used from Amp Reasearch has been great.

Saved me more in chiropracter bills than it cost.

Flopping on wrong is annoying & uncomfortable, but flopping OFF wrong can be disasterous

My Toyota Tundra came with a bed step and I don't know how I got along without it. The old days of trying to climb into the back of a pickup are over.
Does anyone know if they make side steps for the cab? I don't really want running boards and that might be an option.

My buddy's brother owns a rental yard. Went to climb into back of a customers F350 by putting foot on bumper step, grabbing top lip of tailgate and swinging himself over. Tailgate wasn't latched and he fell over backwards landing on his head. That was several years ago and not certain how it all turned out but it wasn't nice. Be careful out there. In the big picture of things there's no real need to rush.
