Have a jd 1070 an jd 5055. Been using the 55 to move small 4x5 hay bales. Looking to upgrade to a 5x6 baler. An my problem is the 55 will be to small to move the biggerbales that could weigh in excess of 2000 lbs if they are wet. Looking to trade the 1070 an 5055. It will also be used to rake an pull a tedder. A local dealer has a kubota 8540 I believe is the model with a kubota loader 4wd no cab. Is this also to small? Also how do kubotas hold up agianst daily farm use. Only experience I have is rental company I use to work for had some small ones we rented for bush hogging. Any feed back an experience moving the bigger 5x6 bales will be greatly appreciated. Also an individual has a mahindra mpower 85 4wd no cab with loader. Online specs has a higher lift capacity for the loader but I have no experience what so ever with mahindra. Honestly can't remember ever seeing 1 in person.

The 8540 is the smallest tractor I would want to pull a 5x6 baler with. Look at a JD or NH or Case IH or even a Mahindra. They are much heavier than the Kubota's. When you figure the baler weight plus the hay maybe a little wet trying to beat a rain or something. Those lighter tractors can get pushed around.

As far as stacking and feeding the 55 would work on flatter ground.

Just my .02.

I'm sorry I guess I didn't explain well enough. The 8540 would only be used to carry the bales. We have an bigger jd for cutting an baleing.

WEll, I think for moving them you will be fine as long as you load the tires and get wheel weights. MY 5083E JD is much heavier (1700lbs) that the same year 8540 (2011) and hence the reason I went with the JD (Among others). The loaders on the bigger utitily tractors will usually lift somewhere around 4klbs at the pins. DO you happen to have the loader specs handy?

I don't have a spec sheet or anything. And may know because it seems like u have way more experience than I do but I was told that loader specs may be way higer than what the tractor can handle weight an hydralics wise. Webought some 5x6 bales a few years ago during bad hay season the the 55 didn't want no part of that. Had to use 3 pt on daddys ol jd

In that case the 8540 should be fine. But weight is still an issue.

we use a 7040SU 4x4 fel to feed an move 5 by 6 bales with ease.an we do carry 1 on the fel sometimes without having a bale on the rear no prob.an we also use a jx80 caseih to pull a 567 jd baler no prob.an our bales weigh 1800 to 2000lbs.so yes the 8540 kubota can move an feed hay no prob at all.

how will a 6105d jd cab 4x4 doing moving hay an pulling a 5 by 6 baler hehehe.we are in the process of finalizing said deal.on that tractor minus the loader.but already setup for the loader.

Shouldn't have a problem at all with that, I looked at one nice tractor. I am still pondering on getting a M100GX

Nice looking set up u got there

Thanks,I hated to get rid of it but got another cab 7040,that 5040 was a great 50hp tractor even spent some time pulling a 15ft batwing. Your 5055 will handle them just don't get in a rush. I widened my stance out and loaded rears, helps it be more stable. Those bales where baled by JD's biggest 5x6 baler, heavy as you could get, couldnt even set two side by side on gooseneck trailer, claimed they weighted 2,000+, and I bet they did.View attachment 355196 View attachment 355197. Well the more research I did the more dealers I found offering 0%. So the wife an I visted 4 dealers today an I absolutely fell in love with a new holland t4.85. It has 3rd loader valve, cab, and 4 wd. When I started my search I didn't expect to go all out but with incentives an new holland giving me 1400 more for my trade than anyone I couldnt resist. I can't wait to get it on the fsrm an try it out.

I'll def get my wife to do that. I wanna take some pictures of us baleing. I know we aren't as big as most but I think we have a pretty impressive operation

I'm not that big either, only around 75acres hay ground and run a 5x4baler. I started a 2013 hay season thread last year and will start a 2014 hay season thread,a lot of nice hay season pics from everyone, big and small operations but nice to see how everyone is doing...

Should make you a good tractor. How does the t4 frame size compare to the t5?

The t5 is a little bigger an be said has upgraded hydralics. The t4 will do exactly what I want tho.
