I may be making an unwarranted assumption, but the username Weedfarmer implies that he either has a lot of problems with undesired plants in his crops, or he's a marijuana grower. If the former, then he doesn't have anything worth stealing, and hence, nothing worth protecting. If the later, then I'm extremely surprised that he hasn't had violent folks trying to steal his piece of the action, if not the whole farm.

A gun is not a panacea. Guns don't solve all problems. But a properly used gun is 100% deserving of the appellation of being the great equalizer. Two men with guns are virtually equal. But if one man has a gun, and the other does not, then the have-not will ALWAYS be at a disadvantage and subject to being victimized.

There is another possibility - neither having a gun. It is still equal.

I'm not going to get into a urinating contest with anyone who doesn't want to carry on their tractor, ATV or UTV, it gets too much like a political thing, lots of word throwing and all, and in the end, neither side changes their opinion.

But, back to the original subject - I'm not endorsing this company in any way or fashion, just throwing it out for to give people some ideas. Gum Creek Vehicle Handgun Mount Steering Wheel Gun Holster Mount

They have a concealed vehicle mount holster that is essentially a pouch that attaches with a clip and strap. The pouch can hold a pistol, plus extra ammo or magazines and it has a flap with a velcro closure to keep dust and dirt from getting inside. A little pricey, but I would think you could find something similar cheaper, or even buy the pouch from Wally World and attach your own clip or strap.
They also have an open holster, but it is basically just a left handed nylon holster with the spring clip, again, it's something you could buy somewhere else and adapt it some to do the same thing.

A friend of mine mounted one of those scabbards on the vertical upright on his FEL mount, between the tractor and the controls. His works well because it's in front and to the right (he's right handed). Being between the tractor and the mount, it's pretty well protected and he can easily keep his eye on it while out mowing or whatever.

I usually carry pistol, so I like the covered pouch, especially on the UTV, center mounted on the dashboard, plus I can easily carry extra ammo inside, just in case I want to take a break from working and do a little target shooting.
Hey Gunny, thanks for trying to bring this thread back on topic... and thanks for the link.

I apologize for veering off topic or keeping it off topic just a little longer, but that is simply absurd, a 5'2" man and a 6'4" man will never be equal, neither will someone in a wheel chair and an able bodied person, twenty yer old and eighty year old etc.. Things like disparity in size, gender, age, physical ability were an integral part of our yearly training in "Use of Force" and "The Continuum of Force" protocol.

Now on topic, I can't find it, but E/S posted a picture in here where he has mounted a rifle scabbard to the door rail of his Kubota cab. My father in law had a hard case for his rifle or shotgun on his open station Massey Ferguson; worked quite well.

Big sky racks seem to work well on utvs in our neck of the woods. Mount underneath roof secure dry and does not rattle. Will adapt to most long guns shotguns and scopes. Hopefully this helps

Why carry a gun on a tractor?

Many reasons but did anyone mentionTBNer Timster2? He saved the life of a neighbor who was being eaten alive by dogs, http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/rural-living/284621-neighbor-attacked-pit-bulls.html.

Timster2 can sorta walk but has to use a wheelchair. When Timster2's neighbor was attacked by dogs, Timster2 was walking from one tractor to another tractor to move some stuff on pallets. Timster2's neighbor was very lucky in that Timster2 heard his neighbor's cry for help and that Timster2 did SOMETHING besides calling 911. If Timster2 had dialed 911 his neighbor would have been torn to pieces by dogs. Instead, Timster2 got on his tractor, drove to his neighbor's house, so that attack, and shot the dogs which saved the neighbors life.

While on my tractor, I have seen dog packs on my place a couple of times. Thankfully, they showed fear and ran as soon as they saw me get off the tractor otherwise SSS might have been applied. I well remember people being killed by dogs in rural areas in KY when I was a kid. The Timber Agent we used to sell our trees, carries a handgun because he was once treed by a pack of dogs. The dogs kept him in a tree for hours before they left and he felt like he could climb down and leave. If he had not been able to climb a tree, he thinks the dogs would have killed him. The Timber Agent was a Vietnam combat vet and not the type of person to be scarred for no reason.

Later,
Dan
