I'm with Brian about the customer assembled "package". I think you can save money.
One nice thing about buying used is you buy it, try it. You may buy some thing for a good deal but not use it as much as you think. Relist on craigslist at a not so great price and make a buck or too. I have thinned out my implement collection lately and I have not lost one dime doing it. I live right near a city so I have a large market to resale to. I typically buy farther from the city where great deals aren't gone in an hour. It works for me anyways. YMMV.
