Buying Advice Buying new L4600 Kubota. Better to package attachments or buy them separate?

/ Buying new L4600 Kubota. Better to package attachments or buy them separate? #11
When I bought mine, I knew I couldn't gona day without a box blade. I got the blade financed with the tractor. It didn't save me anything but like I said I needed it. In the 14 months since I have added (in order) SSQA forklift forks, rotary cutter, and a SSQA grapple. I already had a set of 3pt forks and 3pt hay spear.

I don't want to get rid of any of it but if I had to and all I had were the tractor and FEL I still couldnt live without my box blade and forklift forks.

Of all mine, it would be the Grapple that I couldn't live without.

First and most importantly, I URGE you to strongly reconsider your order of attachments. I would personally put the grapple at the top of the list as I, like Overszd, would never be without one. It is hands down the most useful implement/attachment I own, and I own a fairly lot of attachments as you can see in my signature.

I think a package price is a great way to go for implements if you are set on buying brand new. Typically, but not always of course, you can get a better deal when you package the implements with the tractor at purchase. However, are you dead set on buying new? Implements are great things to purchase used as you will find them for much less than the original purchase price. I have bought everyone of my implements (aside from my grapple) used at a substantial savings over new.

If you need the implements right away, or are dead set on buying new, then I would strongly consider the "package price" after doing some comparisons. However if you don't mind buying used, and have a little time to look around, you will find much better deals on implements, and save your hard earned money for the bank account.

I would have never been able to afford all the implements I have now if I were to buy them new.

Yep, I'm with Piston on used.

I have a 10' JD1008 brush cutter that I bought used and I have $2000 invested versus, what, maybe $5000 new??

I also have a 6' Rhino cutter that I bought used for $575 I think, although it might have been $675, either way, 30% of new cost

I have a 7' hydraulic scarifier Landpride box blade that I have $1000 invested versus, maybe $4000 new??

I have a Rhino 8' heavy duty rear blade I bought for $75, spent another $50 on it converting the hitch and replacing worn bolts.

So patiently shop for used on all of the "want" items on your list. Only negotiate a package with the tractor on any attachments that you "Need" today.

It's not better, if as talked about above, you end up with package items you don't need/use. If that happens then you nailed my definition of "saving".

Package deals are ALWAYS in the seller's favor. Not saying you can't get a good deal. But if you do it's because the seller has a product they want to move.

I bought my first new car in 1969. There were very few packages. You want dual mirrors?? Okay, that's an addition. You want AC? Okay, that's an addition. You want Power Steering? Okay, that's an addition. All individually done.

Now it's all about "Package Z" or "Entertainment Package B", etc. You ALWAYS end up buying something you NEVER use. Great gimmick for driving up sales and price. The tractor world isn't quite as bad as the car/truck world, but they are getting there. :(

I was not referring to buying anything you don't need but to make sure that you get all you will need right the first time!

I think we have a terminology problem here. One guy says package and some think a group of items that the seller has put together to sell off at a reasonable price. And that is good if the buyer needs everything in the "package" not a good deal if you are purchasing things that you don't want or need.

Then you have the "package" deal that the buyer puts together. He needs this and this and this. What kind of a discount does he get when purchasing all this other stuff along with the tractor. I know 9 years ago when I made my first purchase, I shopped hard, long and far. I made a package deal for several different dealers to quote. Some worked with me, others did not. But in the end I got what I thought that I wanted and for MUCH less money than just going to the first dealer and making a deal. ;)

Yep Brian, I agree.

I think where it gets dangerous is when manufacturer financing is a must for the buyer. Then they tend to buy things they don't NEED, but WANT, because they can get it all financed with no out of pocket costs today. Then packaging has little to no "savings".

For attachments, if not caught in the financing trap, buy used and truly "save" money.

I just made my first tractor purchase, and wasn't trapped into financing but wanted to take advantage of 0% for 60 months. My list of wanted implements was fairly long, but I only bought a FEL, 72" LandPride Mower and a 72" Grader/Scraper. Those were the 3 items I HAD to have, so I had them delivered with the tractor and the dealer gave me a small break on them. Everything else on the list will be purchased as needed later.

I tend to want to buy things one at a time. There are so many things over the years that sounded good and I thought about buying, but later reconsidered and never would have used them if I did buy them. Package deals can fall into that category, particularly if it the seller is creating the package. I also shop the used market for lots of items, saves me a ton of money, but you have to do your homework.

On the other hand, if you know for 100% certainty that you need something, get it as part of the initial purchase. ie SSQA.

Exactly, there are two different types of packaging. When I bought I put together what I wanted and shopped different dealers and also buying attachments separately.
