It's possible the site moderator contacted them by personal messaging.
Yep. Generally, the more egregious offenders are sent a message (I have gotten a few) and any posts which quote them are removed, but no messages are sent.

What you state is true BUT on the other hand the percentage of negative ground systems will outnumber the positive ground systems by a very large percentage. Probably over 99+% of vehicles will be negative ground.

+1:thumbsup:

making asumptions based on the majority finds pitfalls with the exceptions.

it's EASY to write instructions that will be technically correct, electrically, in ALL situations. Making assumptions on 1 standard is not one of those ways.

I used to do technical writing for manuals. IMHO you sacrifice brevity for accuracy any day of the week.

No assumptions are being made by the SAE when they approve a method for the standard. That is why it is the standard and NOT the exception(s) that are addressed. Those with antiquated positive ground systems are left out of the current standard precisely because they are NOT the norm, and thus not standard. At one time positive earth systems may have prevailed, but no longer do.
Not all technical writing addresses all issues that may arise in one document.

If they say to attach the neg (-) terminal to a non-painted surface, then they've made some assumptions and are doing a disservice to the reader and they're own reputation.

yep.

positive and case neutral ground systems still exist. and I'm not talking about 6v tractors from the 40's and 50's.

Some heavy equipment and big trucks... etc. this was a clear case of 'fail' on the part of the person writing the manuals. it's simply to be inclusive of better info for netagive, positive, and neutral or isolated case ground. that's a finite amount of info

I know this is "grabbing at straws", but the '41 to '46 Chevy pickups were neg. ground. The same GMC pickups were pos. ground. When you got a new starter, you had to hook up the appropriate ground, then touch the other for an instant, then you were safe to hook it up

sounds like you are refering to polarizing a genny.. and not something to do with the starter.

You are absolutely right. The starter doesn't care, but you had to "train" the genny. I'm glad you caught my mistake.

Back to the O.P., is there the possibility of pos. ground 650's?
