Tight fit for the oil filter/hood. Not sure what to do here. Looking at parts online shows L5740 same oil filter adapter. Wondering if the hoods are way different in this area; they are 1 part number off.

Any replies considered, except torch :)
How about a thin piece of soft foam rubber glued to the hood?

Looks like your filter does not stick out very far.

Wondering the difference, my oil cooler adds 2 inches exactly to the whole package.
Fred

The other thing I got figured is the camshaft installed position is at the 104 degree mark.

Fred I snapped a photo of the filter on the 5740. We had a storm here today so I was just to busy to get anything else done.

I will wait on hacking the side panel for sure; great advice. Sometimes it's a good idea to back things off and think about them. I wake up in the middle of the night and a new idea pops into my head pertaining to a problem area. Thanks for the side panel shots, they helped a bunch.

My side panel will get pushed out 1.75 inches with the cooler setup, foam won't work.

My snowblower does not throw snow that far like yours, that's another thread, speaking of the snow that piled up here yesterday waiting to be blown over the bank.......thanks!

That snow I was blowing was pretty wet. The powder stuff is nice to see coming out of the chute. As for your filter, couldn't you just cut out a opening for it and put some nice edging around the cut area! I know what you mean about having ideas in the middle of the night. I get all my ideas then.

Made a new block off plate for the water manifold so as not to hack the old one. If this doesn't work it's a simple bolt on easy to get to. I decided to use the water bypass as the oil cooler water routing, not sure how well this will work. I notice all the Kubota oil coolers route the hot water right back into the block, insuring proper flow throughout the block/waterpump. Using the bypass might compromise some flow through the actual block and route more through the waterpump. I may have to restrict the flow down to the size of the hole in the original (grey/gray) one.

I used a piece of scrap aluminum and an old heater core for the 5/8" elbow. I'm not a great TIG welder. I never remember green or red tungsten and what current direct or AC to use. Just when everything is going along I dip the tungsten right into the puddle and get to start all over again. I just don't weld enough. I do have some nice welding equipment I was fortunate to collect over the years, 3 wire feeds, a spool gun and a nice Miller 180 TIG/arc welder. Metal lathe and milling machine are a must have for any hot rodding.

I want to get this done it keeps snowing and the stuff piles up waiting for me to "git er done".

My first attempt with the FNC mill didn't work out so well, woke up at 2AM and had a brainstorm so abandoned that idea for the second.

I've been laid up due to a knee operation and haven't had time to read a thread like this from beginning to (almost) end in a loooong time! Hope it all works out for you Fred, you've done a nice job fabricating everything for a clean build. Glad to see you are still posting WITH pics. Can't wait for the outcome....

I would be willing to bet that there are thousands watching that have not posted. Everyone wants to see how this turns out.

If you end up destroying the panel, the one for the other side (right) of my 4240 was $156.27 from Messicks. I'm sure the left side is close to that. It comes painted by the way.

. . . Last time I painted a car in the yard I spent 4 hours buffing the mosquitos out of it the next morning :(
Fred

That cracked me up. Sounds like something I would do.

Right. I noticed the naysayers are starting to be outnumbered by us Fred fans. I appreciate the work of the entrepreneurial members on this forum.

I'm one of those. I don't have anything to contribute, but I'm fascinated by the process. I can't decide if it's like watching a train wreck or a great invention in the works. I guess time will tell.

I don't have the knowledge or tenacity to attempt something like this, and I admire Fred for having both.
