Price of a cord of firewood

My brother used to be a partner in a cabinet making business in Czech Republic. Since the business generated significant volume of saw dust they had a pellet making machine on their vacuum system.
I used to know a guy who boarded horses. He invented a forced air fully automatic boiler burning horse manure. One full hopper would last about a week. He was looking for a manufacturer but there were no takers. I can imagine that if the boiler was able handling horse manure it could handle saw dust, wood chips or pellets as well.
When I was kid we used to heat our house by saw dust my parents would get for little money from a pencil factory. The stove would burn 5-6 hours on one charge. The bad thing was that when initially started it wouldn't heat much because the fire was insulated by the saw dust. To get heat we had a heat exchanger in the flue pipe.

Pellet Boilers are very popular in parts of Europe.

Many will convert a 1 car concrete block garage to pellet storage with a vacuum hopper system to automatically transport to the boiler... often in the basement of the house.

All is good unless the power is out for more than a few hours.

I've seen a cord of wood go for $150 here in NH, but the stuff is fresh cut and doesn't burn worth a darn. You want something that's been drying for a year, you can add $75 to $100 to the price of a cord.

I should add that you can also find people advertising a truck load for some amount as well, but I usually buy the face cord for $50, because I know exactly what I'm getting. The place I go to has a number of metal holders that they stack the wood in and you pay them, take the wood off the rack and load into your own truck. Then they put another full rack out front and reload that one. I have the F-150 with the 5.5' bed and this face cord pretty well fills my bed up to the rails and maybe a little rounder in the middle above them (deep bed). If someone advertised a $50 truck load and I could borrow an F-250 with 8' bed and fill it full myself, I'd think that would be a bargain and probably go that route. But the generic statement "truck load" just keeps me wondering.

A truck load is usually a little more than a 1/3 of a cord, 8' bed to the rails. When its sold like this, I usually take along a kid and we stack it neat and tidy in the bed and can get around 1/2 a cord

I've had a couple of eight foot bed full size Chevy pickups 1/2 ton work trucks etc. Yes you can pile in a real half cord level with the rails and that is all the springs and bearings want to take. Anybody doing it for profit moves up to a one ton or better preferably with a dump body to unload.

Yep...guy I bought my cord from had a 3/4 pickup with a very nice dump trailer. He's out of Rochester, by the way. Next spring, I'll get a couple cords of green stuff and season it here.

It's 7:30 pm and 39F right now in Oakland CA and another burn ban in effect as it has been since Thanksgiving.

Funny thing is people are burning in normal fireplaces and the local stores are sold out of firewood... an arm full bundle is about $9.00

Spoke to a lady while walking the dog and she said it is just so cold she is using her fireplace for the first time since they bought the home eleven years ago and her kids are roasting marshmallows and having a great time... kind of looks like a Norman Rockwell scene...

I guess the smoke police will have another night of overtime wages...

In S/W Missouri a rank sells for 45 dollars stacked, however, it is not cured so i usually buy the season
before and let it dry.
Oh, and it takes approx. 3 ranks to make a cord if you have it cut in 16 " pieces, if i calculated correctly.
