and since we are getting off on tangents, Tim, how did you get your name Larro, other than rhyming with Darro?
My friend with his own plane tells me any landing you can walk away from is a good one.
I don't understand all the excitement about this. The plane landed, it took off. Pilot envy I think is what's going on here.
Not bloody likely. Some of us still fly, and have yet to land at the wrong airport, even without all of the computer aides. This pilot did not learn using a compass, map, and watch, (with a second hand!). And yes, I've been the freight and passenger jet jockey too, so have no reason to envy.
I hear Capt. Sully was interviewed the other evening on TV, and said the pilot crop coming out today relies on technology, NOT piloting skills. Of course, since I don't watch TV, I am going off of what someone else told me. If this is true, and I suspect it is, the number of problems and casualties will increase, because believe it or not, technology can fail, and does.
Good afternoon FG19. I sort of thought my post would get your propellers spinning. You did say you would fly that thing out of there, that's close to pilot envy in my book.
My Dad used to say if he put a paper sack over my head and turned me around three times, I'd be lost. He wasn't kidding. I can relate.
What do you think will happen to the crew, is the pilot's commercial flying career toast now?
Probably not. I think they need warm bodies with ratings, these days. And with mandatory age 60 retirement for those flying for the airlines, and such, there is going to be a wave of retirement of those that have piloting skills, and those with tech skills will be moving into left seat. I find it more than a little disconcerting.
Who knows what will happen to this crew? Maybe a 2 week leave and more "remedial training". If this is his first "newsworthy" mistake, he'll likely be around after that.
And the bold part is just being a conceited pilot, who thinks she can do it all, or at least, most of it! (Been right, so far!)
