Yup, she's the right one, I know it for a while now, an d she keeps proving that every day :).
Jimgerken, don't worry, I will put high quality colors on it. It would be a shame to do a poor paint job after all this work.
Well, here are a few fresh pictures. Been working on stabilizer pads and hose guides...

Wow - to put it kindly I am impressed with this project. But I am also confused with the last couple of pictures. I see several plastic things, and will assume that this isn't your gentler side coming out. :)

One looks like a locator block of something, but the main boom pin has snap rings on it to lock it in place. The other looks almost like a guide of some sort. Can you clarify what they are used for?

Snap ring is holding the upper part of the king pin because there wasn't enough place up there for anything else. The lower part of king pin has a thread and a nut.
Plastic block is intended for holding the hoses in place while the boom rotates left-right so they don't jump out, and that's also the purpose of white rollers inside of the main frame.

Still short on free time...but I've been working on foot pedals. The whole idea is to control the machine as fast and smooth as possible, without having to let go of the control levers. So, I decided to make 2 foot pedals. One to control the hydraulic thumb, and the other to control additional hydraulic circuit (log clamps etc.). There will be a lever system conected to the hydraulic valves; each pedal on one side...something like this:

BFreaky, that pedal set up is very similar to what's on all of our Prentice Telestick 33 material handling booms and it's very efficient you will be very happy with the way it works. The only improvement on the pedals that I'd suggest is to bend a piece of square stock to the same radius as the top and bottom of the pedals and weld it in place to create a lip giving your boots a place to grab so they don't slip off.

Thank you for the advice, I will do it. At first I figured that the plate with "tears" pattern would be enough, but why not, I can add some lips

Not only are you an awesome artist/engineer/designer/builder/photographer/poster...

You even have humility and a great attitude.

Amazing progress! Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!

BFreaky;

Maybe I missed it somewhere (doubt it because I have been following this thread) but will the pattern be ISO or SAE?

Thanks looks great!

I will use ISO pattern. It seems more logical to me, isn't it? I mean, they both have advantages, but I think it's more important to be able to lift the dipper and turn at the same time when unloading material...

Work continues. Finally I finished the foot pedal mechanism; works fine. Besides that, I added lips on the pedals as you suggested, and some reinforcements under the foot plate. I hope tomorow I'll finish the main frame, stabilizers and control post to start the paint job..

BFready:

After observing your GREAT skill and talent:thumbsup: I believe you would enjoy and profit from watching
the videos (on Youtube) of Keith Fenner, a machinist in New York state USA) who has a very small
job shop and makes some of the best videos about his work on the internet:cool2:. As he says he invites you to watch as he makes many old-school repairs by drilling, milling, welding, grinding, plasma cutting, broaching, etc. He is very detail oriented and fully explains every step he takes.

WARNING: Just as watching your work progress, watching his videos is addictive (in a good way--unless your lady objects to the amount of time you spend watching).

Renze:

He is fun to watch and learn from though I, too, notice that he is long-winded a lot of the times.
I fast-forward a bit from time to time, especially when he is doing repetitive processes like
brazing and building up some stock.

+1 for Keith Fenner! I agree, in the latest videos he does tend to "rabbit on" a bit, but the core content is still excellent.

If it's not too late, I 'd suggest a red oxide primer, followed by an enamal plus hardener. I did this on my corn planter rebuild, its as good as a factory paint job, except everything is painted instead of missed and thin spots. Amazon.com: Valspar 4625 Enamel Hardener - 8 oz.: Automotive
Good point, after all that hard work you certainly don't want to use plain 'implement paint" A good automotive paint w/ "hardener" is a must it gives a nice shine and will last much longer.

After 2 weeks of no spare time, today I finally continued to work on my backhoe. I made a box for two manometers and two thermometers so I can check out oil pressures and temperatures while working with the machine. Also, I connected some hoses to see how they fit in the main frame. A few roller guides are still missing, but that's no problem. Last picture shows the placement of the first hydraulic flow regulator. I'll put two of them to be able to adjust the speed of rotation.

Looks good!

You are not afraid to break those delicate gauges? Or do you plan on a protective cover of some sort?
