What a wonderful thing to do. It took me a while in life but I have learned if you do good you get good and if you do bad you get bad.

Do something good and it comes back to you in spades and do something bad better watch your back. I didn't always see things this way, and I'm a slow learner on some things but I have seen countless times when this occurred.

You are one really nice guy and one heck of a welder. It's a privilege just to read this thread.

Thanks guys for your kind words but like I said earlier in the thread. All of you would have done he same as I did. I can't get that poor man out of my mind. I was out in the shop all day working on my latest 5740 project with him on my mind when it hit me. I might have the guy on the security camera so I went looking. I'm showing you because I know there's no risk of the guy being identified. The photo shows him leaving the shop with his urn. If you believe in prayer say a few words for the guy. I know he sure could use them.

You might be right on that and he really did touch my heart. I can't even imagine being in his shoes. When he entered the shop he was on a mission. He had to have it done. I never asked any questions and to be honest I really didn't want to even talk about his situation. I was just trying to keep my wits about me but anyone who knows me personally would have seen I was not myself.
Then there was the situation of this man being a weldor for 40 years. He told me what he wanted done, he was standing right by me as I was doing it and I could see there was a better way ( or at least I felt there was) he went along with it and I got it done but I remember thinking to myself, " please God don't let me mess this up".

I don't like welding smaller things like that that's been welded elsewhere. You don't know how it was done or if there are any contaminates in the metal and to be honest it was a little rough to begin with. I spent a little over an hour on it but if he had left it I probably would have spent another three hours on it. He couldn't leave it because he was leaving for another community 3 hours away where he lived. It would have been a bad time to check my blood pressure

My Karma experience:
Years ago I went to a Christmas tree lot and it was nearly Christmas. I paid for my tree and asked the guy what he did with all the left over trees, he said I take them to the dump. I said why don't you just give them away? He said then people wouldn't buy them they would wait till he got rid of them - made sense.

I then asked him if I could pick up the tree and hand them out at my shop, he said sure. Next day, now a few day closer to Christmas I picked up over 300 trees ( bad year for him no one had money ) .
I contacted the news media and told then get the word out as I will ONLY give them to the needy, well they sent out a reporter and did a story.

The flood gates opened and I was handing out trees to some real sad and deserving people, most offered to do a trade in kind for their services and I would have none of it, I teared up with every offer. I never saw so many thankful people in my life, people. All said I made their Christmas. Little did they know they made MY CHRISTMAS.

One lady showed up in an expensive convertible and wanted a tree. I told her they were only for the "needy" and you don't look needy. She said I'm not needy I just heard you were giving out free trees, I said please leave.

Getting near closing time and getting cold and dark and only a few trees left, this old 40's style black Plymouth with faded paint and rust all over it come chugging into my parking lot.

I mean It was right out of the twilight zone. I was waiting for a fog or mist to appear. Then it gets better. The Mom and Dad step out and they look like they stepped off the farm during the great depression ( mind you I'm in Palm Springs Ca. ) Dad wore dirty, coveralls with holes, 40's style dusty fedora. Woman dress was plain small flower print dress down to her ankles.

They asked about the trees saying it was for their " neighbor" to proud to ask for themselves, kids let that slip out. Two filthy kids came from the back of the car and ran over to a tree they liked asked their dad if they could get that one, the Dad said yes.
The kids ran over to my decorations that I bought for my tree decorating that night, lights, bows, bulbs etc. and said "Dad do these come with the tree?" Dad shook his head no - ( this guy was spooky ) when he said NO it gave me goose bumps.
I saw the face drop on the little kids ( now I know it's for them despite what the Dad said about the neighbour ) . I said why yes these do come with the tree, how can "your neighbour" have a tree with no decorations. He just stared at me with those cold eyes and nodded once with appreciation.

I loaded them up, they chugged away blowing smoke from the tail pipe just puttering away at about 5 mph.

Like I said right out of twilight zone.

Good for you sir. Enjoyed reading this. I bet it sure felt good doing it. A friend of mine who delivers food hampers at Christmas said he's often made deliveries to some high end homes in the city. Some people just get in over their head and can't make ends meet.
I heard a Canadian banker on the news the other day and he said the average Canadian is one paycheque away from bankruptcy
If the interests rates go up its going to be bad.

Needless to say I had to wipe my eyes on a few details that were very heart wrenching. Paul, I don't think I could include myself as "one who would have done the same", if put in your position. How you managed to keep it together with the guy right there, eludes me. I'm very proud to be able to call you "my friend!"

Sorry for the tears. I'm not ashamed to say I had them as well. I kept it together until he eft then I just went in the office and sat down. A few minutes later my wife returned and knew something was wrong.

I hope his final journey is an easy one. He seemed like a great fellow. He was a weldor for 40 years. I wish I could have met him under different circumstances, I could have learned a few things from his knowledge and years of experience.

Well I was rewarded the minute he walked in my shop. He was on a mission and determined to get it done. I just wish I had more time with the urn. I could have had it looks like chrome but he only had a few hours in our area. Thanks for commenting. Much appreciated.
