Tractor Shuts Off While Mowing

I have a B2620 Hst with about 400 hours. Something is causing it to shuttoff while I am mowing. At first it was ocassional so I ignored it.

Tonight it must have done it 30 times. Obviously I cant ignore it. I just wanted to get the darn grass cut before it gets any colder.

So it is probably one of the safeties. Where should I look first? I raised the seat and looked at the seat safety but I didnt notice an obvious problem.

Jump the seat switch and see what happens.

Seat switches can be the problem and the first thing to check.

Ditto , mine has a permanent test jumper.

I hate not to be able to raise up out of the seat and look over the hood and loader, esp. with the forks on.

So, it just shuts of while mowing. Then, what happens when you restart? Do you have to move or jingle anything to get it to restart? Reposition yourself on the seat? Or, D\does it just restart as normal? If you have to do something to make it restart could be a place to look first.

All I have to do is take it out of pto and restart it and put it back into pto. Sometimes when it starts to idle down like it is going to shut off, I take my foot off the hst pedal and it recovers. Sometimes I push the clutch in and it recovers. I'm going to go out later today and bypass the seat switch and see if that solves it. It's pretty frustrating the way it is, and it has gotten gradually more frequent. I think it may do it without the pto on as well but not sure. I think it did it a few weeks ago with just operating the loader on a project, but can't say for sure.

Well I jumpered the seat switch and then mowed for about an hour and it didnt shut down once. So I guess its the switch. Its raining sniw mix now so im not giung to work on it today. But I think I'll fix or replace the switch after I.get a chance to check whether it is electrical or mechanical problem. I had a bad experience years ago whike brush hogging with the 2N when I almost tipped it so I like the ssafey of having a functional switch.

I had the same issue. Once I figured out the problem, flipped the seat up and sprayed in the switch with WD40 (electronic contact cleaner would be better) and then pushed the switch a bunch of times. When I thought about it I would push the switch several times to knock dirt off. Eventually when I had the tractor to the dealer just before the warrantee ran out, the dealer changed it out in warrantee.

DEFINITELY CHECK THIS !

My one year old Yanmar was doing the same thing.....would simply quit intermittenly for no apparent reason. Dealer replaced the fuel shut off solenoid twice, then started looked at all the safety switches....seat, PTO, neutral ( gear drive w/shuttle ), parking brake......

TURNS OUT, it was some plastic drill shavings (probably from drilling the tank at the factory to install the line fittings...supply and return ) in the fuel tank that would roll around and block the outlet line from time to time ( like a marble in the tank ). They just happened to notice, as it quit once in their shop, the plastic fuel filter bowl caving inward as the fuel pump, starved for fuel, was sucking all it could.

Pulled the supply line off the tank, only a dribble of fuel.....stuck a long, thin screwdriver up in the fitting, and got drenched with fuel as it moved the obstruction out of the way.

The fact you can stop yours from dying by backing off the HST pedal, or pushing in the clutch, says reducing the load ( and fuel requirements ) allows it to still run. Sounds a lot like lack of proper amount of fuel. Worth checking BEFORE it drives you nuts !

Mine went over a 100 hours between the first solenoid they put on and the second one. ( which was NOT the problem ) It was just a matter of WHEN the stuff in the tank floated over the supply outlet and stopped the tractor.
