I just had a horse barn built and the floors are rough texture. I would like to enclose a couple stalls and make an office and I would like a nice smooth floor. Can someone recommend a durable floor coating that will fill in the grooved texture of the concrete?

Floor leveler then linoleum/laminate/concrete floor paint?
Show us pics of 'grooved' surface. Why is it grooved instead of smooth?

Most likely a brushed finish. Probably to keep the horses from slipping, as I would imagine a power-troweled finish would be pretty nasty for a horse when wet with who knows what. Lati-level or a similar product as CM mentioned to level the floor would be a good start. Then lay whatever flooring you'd like over it. Laminate would eliminate the need to cover the grooves, although you may need a vapor barrier.

Go to your local tool rental place and rent and grinder like those used for Terrazzo floors. It is like a floor scrubber used by cleaners in large buildings but has circular stones in place of the pads used on cleaning machines. You can easily smooth the floor and not have a coating that could loosen and flake off.

Plus 1.

Then paint, stain, or lay something over. Not a fan of wood over concrete and in this environment I would suggest a paint or porcelain tile. I like porcelain over ceramic because the color goes all the way through the tile ceramic is only top layer. So chips and scratches really show with ceramic. All can be done fairly cheap on this size space (office).

Self leveling compound works good, but you need to do it all at once and it's almost $40 a sack, which can get pretty pricey. If the floor is level, just rough, I would tile it. 16 to 18 inch tiles are easy to install and the mortar will fill in the rough texture nicely.

You might want to check out this company DIY Bar Top epoxy the company also has an epoxy that you can put on concrete floors and you can add colors to it so it isn't just concrete gray.

Rust oleum makes a product that would require the surface grinding mentioned above.
Due to government tosha regulations melted aluminum pots that are transported have to have a smoothness of (whatever the specification is).

They grind it flat, then sand blast it after it is flat enough. Then they use a power trowel and the rust oleum epoxy on the floor. Let it cure a few days, and the only thing that will make it look bad is a pot of spilled metal.

If you are already flat, with a broomed surface I would think you would be rough enough to spread. It looks great in grey, not too slick. And the abuse it takes here in a month you couldn't do in a lifetime. Looks kind of like a grey painted floor, but the color is the mixed in ( sand) I'm not sure it is really sand. And if it gets a chip, the color is all the way thru. It also is chemical resistant, so if you spill something it wipes right up.
If you have a place near you that rents a power trowel, I think the product ships in a 5 gallon pail. So I would think you could have it shipped to the house.

I asked the contractor applying it how much it would cost for a garage, he quoted me 400 for a 3 bay size. But that was only if he could come right after the plant job. And that's been 12 or so years ago. I've seen other products that claim to do the same thing. So materials might not be that high.
William. Good luck!

I used ceramic tile in my tack room. Very easy to install and usually you can find tile on sale for cheap. So easy to keep clean.
