Tractor
John deere 5100m, mf1643 cab and kubota bx2370woods bb720x land pride disc and reverse tiller
I have a Kubota b2620 with a backhoe attachment and I want to upgrade. I have it narrowed down to two tractors, Kubota Ms5100hst with backhoe and loader and mahindra 5010 hst with cab and backhoe and loader. Both dealers are giving me 18500 for a trade in ..Kubota wants 37000 and mahindra wants 38900. I really need pros and cons and your advice will really help. Thanks guys

Don't really need the cab, but its nice to have.

Currently own my first, and likely only, tractor and it has a cab. There are pros and cons. My biggest con is head clearance, as the cab will prevent you from getting close to tree lines. The pros are plenty, heat and cold, spray drift, stinging critters and quieter, among others. There are days when I would prefer to not run the A/C, so I open the doors and stay away from obstacles. Overall, I'm glad I got the cab.

I recently saw a video on the 100HP Mahindra....was impressed with its features. The 5010 doesn't have all the same features tho.Just looked on line at the 5010,one thing I didn't like was the turnbuckles on the three point and non-extendable end links.....both can be corrected/changed I would think. The Mx5100 is a pretty popular tractor for Kubota. If snow removal is in your future....cabs sure are nice for that.Have you priced a 50HP Kubota cabbed tractor?

I haven't priced it ..but cab is not of top importance. Looking more for reliability and power...

Seeing we owned three, currently two Kubota's and never used a Mahindra...........I guess you know what my answer would be.The Kubota will be the lighter of the two but you can add weight, hard to take weight off.I am not going to knock Mahindra just don't have any experience with them,no dealers in the area.

I like made in Japan, better than made in India. But that's just me.

I've looked at both models, also JD & Massey. I like the MX5100 over the others!

The Mahindra 5010 is made in Korea by TYM for Mahindra to their specs. Need to keep in mind that Mahindra has tractors made in India by Mahindra, Korea by TYM and Japan by Mitsubishi.

Best thing to do is look and operate both if you can. Compare all of the specs and get the one that seems best TO YOU.

Good luck ;)

Not only do they source from them and have their own factories in India, they also have assembly plants in the US, Australia, China, and Africa. As far as I know, models they source from TYM and Mitsubishi are shipped globally, models made in India are shipped globally, models made in the US are shipped throughout North America, models made in Africa stay mostly in Africa and the Middle East, and models made in China or Australia stay in China or Australia.

I'm generally a big "buy local" advocate; but in needing a tractor the size I needed, I knew I wasn't getting anything 100% USA built. I did the research into the companies and their histories and in the end I had no qualms about purchasing a Mahindra tractor made in India. Most of their "know how" comes from building International Harvester designs and engine designs are a lot like the old Perkins replaceable wet-sleeve motors (some have interchangeable parts). They use good quality Bosch injection and emission systems. Their loaders, backhoes, and most of their other implements are all 100% USA made. Their backhoes and front loaders are outfitted with great quality US made KURT hoses, and also have (in my opinion) the best subframe connections to the tractor of all the manufacturers. The FEL subframes reach to both axles to distribute load, the backhoe subframes reach up near the front axles to distribute load. All the extra strength and steel in these subframes helps to add weight down low which improves stability while using the FEL and BH. The front axle on the 40HP class Mahindra was much heavier than competitors which also makes a big difference for FEL work.

Would you mind posting a picture of that?

I'll need to snap a few to get a good view of it. Only one I currently have that shows any part of it was actually focused on the front axle, but you can see a bit of the front section of FEL subframe.

The plumber down the street from me curses at the prices on the Kubota but he buys one each and every time. Down time is a profit killer for him and the Kubota's have done him well through the years. He works them like dogs and keeps then about two years before moving to the next one. He digs ditches, does dirt work, sets pipe, etc. Just a point from a guy earning a (very good) living sitting in the seat of one. His daughter is in training as a plumber and likes the Kubota for ease of use. Amazing what one learns over a beer...

$37,500 seems really high for an mx5100, even with the backhoe. That tractor with a loader is usually around $26-27k.

Does he use a Tractor or a mini Ex?

If you have both dealers near by, and they are established and entrenched , and equally liked, I have had good results with the Kubota. In my situation there isn't a choice. Tony
