How often do you run in 540E / ePTO?

Just used my 5075E w/540E for the first time today with my MX6. I LOVE this feature. It was so nice to run at 1700rpm and not 2400. And the cutter ran flawlessly.

So that made me wonder... how many of you guys with 540E on you tractor run your PTO like this a lot? How much - all the time? Some of the times?

I know there are certain applications where you shouldn't run it (baler, e.g.), but I wanted to get a feel for how everyone else is using this feature, and how they are liking it. :thumbsup:

Good heavens, YES. How did I run a tractor without the PRT before?! It's taken a wee bit of getting used to in telling my right hand to quit reaching for the gear shift to go into R, ha!

You run your HX15 at full 2400rpm, though, Darin?

I always use it when I'm running 540 attachments. It's so much quieter and saves a lot of fuel. I have yet to find a time that 540e wasn't enough to run everything.

I use 540e about half the time. Great feature when you don't need all your power, but if I only needed E-pto I would have bought a lower hp tractor

I was really surprised at how much more comfortable it was running at 1700rpm vs 2400. Especially on an open station. Also, it allows me to listen to the cutter better for any weird noises.

Can't run my moco, power harrow or rake in e-pto. Also need the extra rpms for tillage.

Ahh sure. I have heard that a baler was a no-go with 540E. MoCo makes sense too.

I also sometimes need full rpms for my rotary mower in really tall stuff but usually e-pto works for topping paddocks.

It really is. I am super pleased with it. Great piece of technology!

Do you guys think you could run a PTO woodchipper with 540E? My gut tells me no because the PTO isn't running at a smooth, consistent rate with a woodchipper, but thought I would get some other opinions.

I need to do a little video of it sometime. It really makes mowing a lot more enjoyable. Less vibration, noise, etc.

I ONLY run the E-pto when knocking down the weeds in the pastures. Turning up hill with an MX 10 and mowing puts a good load on the engine. I usually dont run at 2400 when mowing this stuff either though. I'm working on building my fleet of attachments so thats really the only part I could comment on. I love the PRT but sometimes wish I could powershift in the midrange. Its a real bear trying to downshift going up hill when the going gets tougher.

I can see that as an issue, for sure. See, we don't really have hills here in TX, so I wouldn't know. :laughing:

Most of my implements are matched well to my tractor so I use the standard pto the most. Some things like smaller implements and spin spreaders are good candidates for the e pto though. About the chipper it would depend on the size of the branches and the feed rate whether you can use the epto or not, try it and see.

I use 540E most of the time on both 6' finish mower and 6' rotary cutter. The only time I have to throttle up is in very deep, thick brush. I was wondering how well my 5075M would pull an MX8 using 540E, but can't make the purchase to find out just yet. I get better fuel economy with the 5075M on 540E than I did with a Massey Ferguson 245 with the same rotary cutter.

You might want to run the chipper in epto to help lower the risk of damage. These tractor have enough power to really tear them up.
