So i did some searching and seems like alot of you have traded 1/2, 3/4 and one tons in for the Tundra. What made you do it? I currently drive and tow with my 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 w/ 3:73s and have over loaded it a few times and it has never let me down it will always bring me home safely i never sagged out the back or bent the frame when looking at the body lines, im looking into getting something new and i think i want to try the Tundra out but one image always stick out in my head, i was on the highway being passed by a Tundra towing a flat bed with a cavalier on it and the body lines were so out of level from the box back compared to the front half, i was shocked!

And i look online and found this picture of the same thing:

2012-09-08%u0025252014.30.39.jpg

now is there something wrong with these trucks that would make them sag like this or do they all do this?

Thanks

I have a 2008 with the 5.7. My only complaint is the rear suspension is a little soft but a properly balanced load is no problem. Lots of power, good handling and awesome brakes. I think an airbag kit would be the ticket but haven't really needed it yet.

08 regular cab 8 ft bed with 5.7. It replaced a GMC Sierra 1500. I would say they both handled tongue weight in a similar fashion. I have 11 square of architectural shingles in the bed and it never hit the hard stops. Sales ticket said 2729 lbs. This was all loaded on one skid that was roughly centered over the rear axle. I have hauled my Branson 2400H with FEL & MMM on my single axle 77 x 10' trailer. I was more worried about the trailer being over loaded than I was about the truck.

Just bought a 2013 Crew Max 2wd with the 5.7 and max tow. Have not towed with it yet. It had the most standard options for the $ that were important to us vs the other 3. The room did not compare. So far we really like it.

I have an '07, 5.7, Double cab, 4X4 that I traded my '05 Ford, Lariat, 5.4 in on. The Ford was never what I expected it to be; everyone bragging up the 5.4, 3 valve Triton. The Tundra has turned out to be more than I had hoped for. I tow two antique pulling tractors to fairs and other meets; one weighs 3500lbs and the other weighs 5500lbs. That's 9,000lbs of tractors on a 14,000lb Bri-Mar trailer that I have no idea what it weighs; I would guess around 4000+lbs, which would put the total somewhere near 13,000lbs. The load doesn't seem to bother the truck at all. I load the lighter Farm All upfront and nestle the Ford 960 on the rear of the trailer over the axles. I've 94,000 on the clock with nothing more than routine maintenance, 10,000 mile oil changes on synthetic oil and have never added between changes. Maybe I got an exceptional one, but I'm more than satisfied with mine

Nope, you got the average one. I looked hard at the Tundra in 08 but ended up with a Nissan Titan. Like you I came out of a 07 FX4 F150. It was a great truck but compared to the Titan it lagged behind.

The locking Dana axles with Detroits in them sold me on the Titan and if Toyota would have offered a lockers I probably would have ended up with a Tundra.

So far no issues other then a recall on my Titan and one burt out tail light, $4. Its got 80,000 miles and more than 50,000 of them are pulling 7,500 to 10,000# with no complaints.

Yer right about the lockers; I wish Toyota had used some type of limited slip/lockers instead of taking that mousey ALSD system from Lexus. Having said that, I've never been in a situation I couldn't get out of, and I've been in some cockers, especially with my snowmobile trailer

Not in the Tundra when I was looking. They did in the Tacoma.

This is my 07 5.7 double cab 4x4. It has over 136k miles, the only repair was a replaced water pump @ 86k miles. I agree the ALSD is worthless and it only works in two wheel drive.

Have had Tundra's for hauling boats (14ft to 25ft) for out marina Have a 2006 4.7, 2010 4.6, 2013 5.7 and love them all. The 2006 (little Tundra) is great for the tight boat launches; the 2010 is great on fuel with amazing torque and the 2013 is thirsty but excels with the big pulls. Both the 2010 and 13 have the trailer towing package with the extendable mirrors and the eletric locking rear differential which we really like the 2006 pulls almost as well as the 2010 but the smaller size is actually preferred by some of the staff. All came with factory tires that were not aggressive enough for our steep gravel ramps in our area but Goodrich all terrains solved that problem. Have almost 300,000 km on the 2006 and except for a heater motor have not done anything but brakes, tires, spark plugs and oil changes on any of them

I no longer have a Tundra but I loved mine and wish I had the money to have one to go along with my 11 F250 6.7. The long story short...I purchased an 08 dbl cab 5.7 4x4 at an incredible price from a coworker in early 2010. I sold it and then missed it so I sold my 07 Dodge 5.9 CTD (still crying over this). I bought a 2010 demo TRD dbl cab 5.7 in Pyrite Mica and loved the truck. I towed my TC40 with a FEL and an attachment several times. I estimated the weight around 7,500-8,000lbs and did a wonderful job. I had a 2001 Silverado 5.3 with a 4spd and 3.73 that would scream for mercy with the same weight. The Tundra has an excellent motor and gearing for pulling. The 4.30 gear ration gets you going quickly. The best mpg I got was about 18 on the interstate and around 7-8 towing. I hated the small fuel tank and this would be a deal killer if I planned on towing long distances. A 200-220 mile range is a pain. I traded the truck one year later when my third child arrived for a Crew Cab F250. The other brands have caught and surpassed the Tundra, but it is a solid truck. My wife has a 2010 Sequoia with the 5.7 and 3.90 rear end and she loves it. As far as the sag and uneven lines, I believe Toyota admitted their belief is to bend but don't break. Last year in Canada, my bear guide had a 2011 dbl cab with the 5.7 and he had just over 100k miles on his. He drove down the gravel roads at break neck speed with every traction control light flashing like crazy. My F250 would have been beaten apart at the speed he was going. He hated the fuel mileage and the fact it ate tires because he could spin the tires so easily. After this, I figure this is one truck that you have to work at to destroy.

The only thing I don't like about my 07 5.7 Tundra TDR QC/CQ is, it drinks the gas !! MY 5.9 Cummins 4x4 QC. will kill my5.7 tundra QC / CQ (what ever you call it) in mpg any day

any truth to this? as this is my biggest concern not that i would break the frame but how bad it looks when you are hauling.

After owning numerous brands over the years, mostly GMs though I bought a 2000 Tundra about a year before I was talked into getting a dirt track race car. 22 times a year I would pull a 26' enclosed 12k trailer with a 3200 lb car in it plus about 600 to 800 lbs of assorted parts and gear about 150 miles (75 miles each way). I had to use a WD hitch. I did that for 4 years and the Tundra didn't miss a beat. After 130k miles the transmission is just as strong as the day it left the factory. I had the fluid tested at 100k and the report said there was lots of life left in it so I left it in for another 20k. Even when I flushed it I felt like if I had it tested again it would still have been good. I still have it and in a year or so I'm going to replace it with a 5.7 Tundra.

They my not get the best mileage but they are built to last. I work with people who've owned other brands who have had lots of issues. Ford's spark plugs and exhaust manifolds come to mind for the gas engines as well as the oil pans rusting and then leaking on the IH diesels.

I'm on my 4th Tundra, started with an 01 2wd v6, then an 05 4wd base cab V8 (fun truck!).
then i traded that for a 2007 double cab 5.7, nice truck. Traded that 1.5 years ago for the 2010
I have now, 5.7 double cab TRD which had the alloys and bluetooth with satellite radio. All of them
have been great, (have been a toyota fan for 25 years).
I pull landscape trailers with mowers or small compacts all the time at work, and at home have a 6x12 landscape
trailer that i use for hauling my own mowers around. We also have an 18' fiberglass boat that is a piece of cake.
A few years ago i picked up a 27' travel trailer and that is around 7K lbs loaded, not to mention what we put in the
bed of the truck and we don't go far, but it handles it great. I have never towed for long distances, so mileage
isn't really a big issue for me. It's my daily driver (unless it's nice out and i ride the motorcycle!)
I find the ride great, comfort is good, and they are quiet. It's a great truck to drive any time, and I don't mind
taking it on a trip as I like the comfort and quiet on the highway. (trade off for the gas mileage though)
Here's a picture of my 07 hooked up to the camper a few years ago:

I'm not a Tundra owner but may be in the future. Been thinking of getting new truck. Have been leaning toward a Nissan Titan but yesterday I saw a dark blue V6 4WD extended cab Tundra. Have to say it was a beautiful truck!
