2013 Tundra vs 2013 Ford

Personally I like my Dodge powered by a 5.9L Cummins Diesel.

Me too! It's just a truck. No frills.

They rust like any other. Stuff is easy to work on and it's got the best diesel on the market under the hood. Inline six Cummins diesel, stick shift transmission, floor shift t/case, big Dana axles....what's not to love?

Ford frames are typically huge looking and have more cross sectional area than the others. They use lower tensile strength steel so they have to use more of it. Just a different approach to accomplish the same result.

Are we still talking Toyota vs Ford? If so, there is no comparison in frame strength. I still like both trucks overall equally though.

Yeah. The paragraph preceding the one you quoted touches on that.

The Ford frame likely is stronger. It certainly has higher tow ratings.

Based on one post? Funny! Do you have any personal experience to add or just a sideline cheerleader that owns neither?

His experience is probably limited to seeing the tailights of Fords taking off at a stop light.

See if you can view any live data. DPFE should read about 1v at idle. Also check and see what baro reads in Hz. A bad MAF can cause a whacky idle that may not show up in other conditions.

Draw a vacuum on the EGR valve and see if
It either dies or stumbles.

I can pull that info with my scanner realtime. Ill be sure to check:thumbsup:

Lets not "cheapen" the good info in this thread with exaggerated claims and brand bashing. Please. Thank you. Now, does anyone have performance numbers (1/4 mile, 0-60) for the Tundra, 5.7 crew max 2wd 4.30 gears. I have heard 6 second mid 14 times. If correct, that is fast for a big truck.

I have heard low 14's for a regular cab short bed and I have seen one at the strip turning 14.30's, reg cab 4x4 short bed. Sorry for contributing to getting the thread off topic. I will over look the foolishness that some are posting. Like some of us said earlier they all make good trucks.

I am guessing the eco boost is right there too? They have similar power numbers.

I don't know the accuracy of these postings but it appears to be close. It is fun to look up some older vehicles I used to own and think were quick.

Here is a good evaluation. I am surprised I hadn't seen this comparison before.

2013 Light-Duty Challenge: Acceleration - PickupTrucks.com Special Reports

Ram with the 8-speed is now competing well keeping the engine in its sweet spot. I thought the Toyota had the best brakes of the bunch on paper but these results didn't show it.

7.18 0-60 for the 5.0 F-150. The throttle plate doesn't open 100% on the 5.0 until higher RPM's. I wonder what it would do with E85, it boosts power to 375hp and 390ftlb.

And another test with both engines.
6.82 seconds ecoboost
7.38 seconds with 5.0 but with a 3:31 rear
I would bet the 5.0 would fall slightly below the GM 5.3 Direct injection results.

Looks correct based on the pictures. I also wonder if they were running high octane in the ecoboost for these test. Manual says better performance while towing.

I doubt it they were using high octane.

Plenty but why bother... People will buy what they want based off emotion and tradition. Factual information is only a small part of the car buying equation. Enjoy your truck. Cheers

Exactly! Basically a tractor with doors and a bed! Lol

This is you excuse for not adding factual information? The purpose of these threads is so that people like the OP can gather information to make an educated decision. Why would he ask for input if he was basing his choice on "emotion and tradition"?

We are not that stupid, go ahead and give us some facts. We are eager to learn.

This was my EXACT intention for starting this thread- getting facts. Trucks are just too expensive these days not to shop other brands. I was born and raised GM. Did not own a Ford until 2000 (97 F150). Drove many Dodges, just did not work for me. If I bought strictly on emotion and tradition, a GM would be in my drive, not a Tundra. At this time and for the money, the Tundra offered the most standard options that fit my needs-space for kids and towing were the top of my list- than the others. I looked at the eb and 5.0 Ford, Titan, Dodge and Chevy. Ford with eb- to get the options the Tundra had standard was $1500 more, $750 more with 5.0. Titan was close, Tundra had more room, power and better mpg. Dodge- cheapest and felt it too, but the hemi was nice. Chevy- I was trading one in, really wanted to look harder at another manufacturer. They also were about $1000 less than the Tundra, but again with less options. This was a 2 week long process and in the end we went with the Tundra. The dealer was outstanding, top notch customer service. We could not be happier.
