I finally got around to trimming my trees around some of the pastures. Then I had to clean the mess up. 5 trips like this with brush stacked on the forks. How did I survive for 10 years without a loader on a tractor? 37 hours on the new CK30 and loving it more and more.
I don't know how this ended up with winches as a topic. Tried to edit but....

Mudcat;

If your loader had Skid Steer Quick Attach you could add a Grapple and you might never stop smiling. We moved brush, tree limbs, etc. with loader bucket for years and then added 3rd Function and 84" grapple to our New Holland TL100A. Cannot believe how much hard labor this saves.

Good luck!

I was actually thinking about a grapple as I was throwing the limbs on the forks. But it just isn't in the budget no matter how handy it would be. I've got a few other attachments that are ahead of it right now, but maybe someday.

I find if I stack the limbs in neat piles as I cut them, I can come back with the forks and pick up the piles, saves having to handle them twice.

I also like to dump the loader bucket near where I am stacking all the limbs in their final resting place, I find I can get a neater tighter pile with the bucket than with the forks, then when done just pick up the bucket with the forks and head for the barn.

Quick attach forks are sure handy.

I just walked along the edge of the pasture and trimmed the trees letting the limbs fall. Then went back with the tractor and threw the limbs on the forks. Not a lot of labor involved.
Looks like a weenie roast is in order here in the next couple weeks.

When stacking branches put all but ends facing the same way, it makes them easier to handle; and that is what we did to ease the task of chipping them on big or small jobs, when I used to do tree work for a living.
Today I was using my Echo pole saw to prune/elevate pine tree branches for my tenant's horses and steer. I was wearing my helmet with muffs and face screen. Good thing I had the helmet on because dead branches are way more dangerous than live ones. They are unforgiving regarding trying to poke one's eye(s) out, for both humans and grazing animals. I wear glasses under the face screen since it provides limited protection; it really just keeps saw chips and branches that might smack me in the face out of my face. The glasses give me another layer of protection - I've only got two eyes, and I plan on keeping both for as long as possible.:thumbsup:
I find if I cut a path toward the tree trunk then I can start as high as I can reach and cut from highest to lowest point counterclockwise. This allows me to get the entire trunk cleaned up without tripping over branches I've already cut.
With my grapple and winch I can tackle just about any tree related task single-handedly.
I really enjoy doing tree work this time of year, when it's not so brutally hot.:dance1:

Hope the above is a help to someone wrestling with branches...
