If the tractor isn't the problem and it is just too heavy then look into a trailed rotary rake and trade in the 3pt model.

I thought about recommending that but think the rake would be a cheaper upgrade for him

I adjusted the top link and now the tractor can almost lift it all the way up and it does lift it high enough to clear windrows.

I personally cannot justify the price of a 5M for such a small tractor. In the future I may look at a 6D, but New Holland and Massey seem to offer a lot of bang for the buck so I will definately look at them as well.

6D is cheaper than the 5M and you can get 7300# 3 point lift.
