10'3" but if it was me I'd spend the extra $$$$ and get a towed machine or put the 3 pt on a caddy. I've got a 9'3" on a M7040 and had to slow down to 4th gear to cut some grass.

I think I'm just going try and buy some used stuff . Since I never cut and baled . And I just need to be able to cut 100-150 a year . Would just get it cut but i can seem to get anyone to do it . So thing I just buy some used stuff that I don't have a ton in to start and go from there . I missed a 7' cutter for $800 that looked to be a deal but wasn't sure . And I couldn't get away to get it and someone beat me to it .
But wasn't sure the size I should be looking for .

Pull behinds are hard to find around here as people are just starting to use them .

Are you talking about a rotary cutter aka: bush hog or a disc type hay mower? I don't think you really want to bale hay that has been cut with a bush hog.

Theres is an old timer i know that cuts extremely thick hay with a bush hog, but he can take the side off of his bush hog.

We used to have one of those. You left the side on and it was a rear discharge bush hog. You took the left rear side plate off and it would cut the hay off and fling it out the side without chopping it up. It was a Corsicana brand.

Around here the preferred tool would be something like this, a disc mower conditioner, and when you can pick something like this up used for $9K it was a no-brainer.

Are you Mowing 150 Acres on Baling a 150 Bales. If the latter, look at at the Drum Mowers. I just bought one and am extremely happy with it. It's a smaller acreage mower though, but the inertial cost can be about a third of the Disc mowers. bjr

People are just started using them around here . So no used ones really on the market yet . So I will probley have to get a 3 point hook up one .

They not that bad once you get use to the three point hitch. I use to cuss mine out, not bad hooking up but unhooking. I have a JD 275.

I use a 7'11 Vicon disc cutter on my 7040 handle it no problem, don't run a loader when cutting,if was any heavier would need to leave it on or front weights.

Mower conditioners seem to be very popular around here for both big time and hobby farmers. 1 machine to do the job of 3 seems like a no brainer to me. Things seem to be done so much different here than everywhere else. Here you cut with a mower conditioner then bale it when dry enough, from what I've seen other places mow it then ted it to help it dry then put it into rows with rakes then bale it, seems like a lot of work to make bales.

In the last few years the humidity has gotten so high(most of the time) that if hay was to be windrowed right as it was cut it would never get dry. I lay all my cut hay flat then I rake three 9 ft cuts together and bale. You cut then bale. Who do you think makes more trips around the field with a tractor me or you?

I guess the humidity here is still low then (although for quality of living higher humidity would be nice cause the air gets ridiculously dry) but that's all I see around here is people cutting with mower conditioners and baling a few days to a few weeks later, plus mower conditioners have a set of grooved rollers in the middle (not sure the technical name) that crimp the stocks helping them dry faster. Yes when you bale you get to make less trips around the field but how many trips around did you have to do to get it to that point to bale it, that's my point I was making.

Ok one trip less than your way. un-raked hay you make 6 trips around field cut(3) and then bale(3)=6. My way I make 3 trips to cut,1 trip to rake & 1 trip to bale = 5 trips to complete the baling. Also my way completes a field A LOT faster and that's important on fuel saving, labor, wear on baler and really important "IF a thunderstorm" is headed toward hay field..

If? Around here, its generally a "When" not an "if"

Yay more time in my new tractor, lol. But in reality I guess it boils down to personal preference and location?

Lately it's been "if" for when the sun will shine and things dry up.

LOL sounds WAY too familiar. We have the dryest 2/3 (ie: driest ground) of the lightest (ie: thinnest grass growth) of our hayfields cut right now, hoping it will dry enough to bale on Sat before the 30% chance of scattered thunderstorms shows up.
