Rotary hay cutter

LOL sounds WAY too familiar. We have the dryest 2/3 (ie: driest ground) of the lightest (ie: thinnest grass growth) of our hayfields cut right now, hoping it will dry enough to bale on Sat before the 30% chance of scattered thunderstorms shows up.

Farmers around here said they need at least 1 month of sunshine, 2 months being ideal to get good crops in. Down south is all flash flooding turning things into a province wide state of emergency.

How big of a 3 point one can I use on my m7040.

I think I'm just going try and buy some used stuff . . .

You may have to take what you can find, but my preference would be a Kuhn GMD600 or a JD265. Same machine, different paint. 7'10" cut. Probably about as "bullet-proof" mower as you can get. Plenty of them on the used market. (look on tractorhouse.com) There should be a Kuhn or JD dealer (or both) near you.
I wouldn't suggest anything bigger. It would just overload your tractor.

I pull a 9'3" cut Vermeer on a caddy with my M7040 with no problems. Before I bought the M7040 I pulled the same cutter with a M4900 but was low on HP in real good Coastal.

I have a brand new JD275 (Kuhn GMD 700) attached mower on my M7040 with Cab. Front loader and rear tires are filled. I was worried about the weight offset back there but once I got it adjusted and air'd up my tires it was just fine. The newer 275's or 700's have a better parking latch that keeps the 3 point fairly level and much easier to hook on to. They don't flop down at a bad angle like some of the older ones.

JD has them on sale this month in South Texas and they were about $3500 cheaper than from Kuhn believe it or not.

By the way, I was a little worried about not have a float function on my remotes but I'm on fairly flat ground and it seemed to do fine as well as my wheel rake. $1000 is a little steep for another remote.
