J J, I guess you noticed that the article says they can be ticketed if they are doing 10 mph or more under the speed limit. So if they're doing 5 mph under that speed limit, nothing can be done apparently. And it really is hard for me to understand why anyone driving 10 mph under the speed limit would not stay in the right lane anyway.

Cause they can! Cause they like seeing people blow a gasket?!Cause they're clueless!? I've been trying to figure that one out all my driving career so far!

I've never looked up any Florida laws, so maybe Soundguy is right in that a new law isn't needed; just need to enforce existing laws. A driver could certainly be ticketed for impeding traffic in Texas for driving under the speed limit in the left lane and he wouldn't have to be going as slow as 10 mph under the speed limit either. But I don't know whether Florida already had such laws or not.

I like it.

We have a minimum speed on the major highways... I think it may be 70kph.

Now if we can only force trucks to stay in the far right lane with no passing, unless there is 3 lanes (passing lane). Nothing worse than 2 trucks taking up both lanes.. with one going 0.005mph faster than the other trying to pass!

We just got back from a trip to FLA which had us on I95 for most of the way.

I don't know what it is about SC but we always have problems in that state with Left Lane Bandits. At XMAS the left lane bandit was a semi doing maybe 50 in a 70. He was either changing his clothes or doing the nasty because he was all over the road. :confused3::shocked:

This trip, north bound again, there was a car that might have touched 50 in the left lane that was posted 70. I don't know how an accident was avoided. There was a middle aged couple in the car yakking away and totally clueless to the cars stacking up behind them and slamming on brakes. Ya would think the people PASSING them in the right lane, giving them the stink eye as the passed the idiots would have been a clue...

If we had gone another hour or so south in FLA I am sure we would have seen the crazy driving that is so common down there. Course the "season" is over, so many of the Snow Birds have gone back Nawth, which does help the traffic issues down there a bit.

Yes, it's very sad. They just keep adding laws, but never get rid of any. Every elected legislator thinks he/she has to introduce new laws so his/her constituents will be fooled into thinking he/she is doing a good job. If one ever starts working on abolishing laws, that one will have my vote.

Well Bird, one law that seems to have gone away shouldn't have, and I have no idea who got rid of it. Used to be, the State could only charge to drive on a toll road, until the cost of building that road was paid off, then it became a freeway again, with no tolls. Texas has sure been getting a lot of toll roads, the last few years, and I don't see any of them going back to being free to drive on.
