Peter, I'd say it's almost time for an adult beverage....almost.

I'd love to have heard Pete's conversation(s) with the builder, probably would have been a clinic on communicating with patience/calmness. ;)

I am sure, knowing Peter, it was patience, calmness, knowing exactly what he was talking about, and a bit of attitude thrown in for good measure.

Peter:

Can you post a pic of what this looks like now:

There are some concerns that this may not be the best way to attach a railing.

I have quietly watched this thread right from the start (with much interest, I might add). Do you have any idea how many people have viewed this? Is there a view count available?

I my humble opinion, I think you have done a great job. Not only with your running account, but also showing wisdom as to which suggestions to follow from this thread, and which ones to ignore. I wish I had done this when my wife and I built our house in 2006-07. Best of luck to you and your Mom.

Laundry area. I'd like to get the washer/dryer closer to the wall. Will need to investigate. Installing a different countertop with a proper sink is still on the final punch list

day129-15.jpg

I had an issue with the curved front dryer we got and thought about it and got the "kit for floor discharge" put that in and set dryer in place and ran duct in the basement up to the dryer now its tight to wall problem solved

I dont know how that would work with the risers under machines but check it out.

I have a dryer situation that shown above with the dryer too far from the wall but was unable to find info on the "kit for floor discharge" mentioned above. Where can I learn more or see one?

Most dryers have that built-in, some also have side option, just remove factory plate. Our new front loader GE had these options. I built a shelf for the washer and dryer to sit on and then cut hole for bottom vent discharge, could not see paying $250 for each bottom.

Will have to look into the bottom discharge option for sure!

Good progress was made today on the items on the punch list. Front entrance area is starting to shape up

Master bath vent finally ducted to the outside and painted to match siding

Mom moved some of her plants over today

Here's how the mechanicals ended up

day131-6.jpg

There is a cutoff on the cold, using a red handle. No cut off on the hot. Hmm

day131-7.jpg

6" duct for the cooktop vent. 4" duct for the dryer.

Outside, I started a log pile. The area I have to work with is very tight, so I'll likely have to start loading and hauling away before the pile gets too much larger. Problem is that I can only drop off timber at the mill during weekdays, which is when I'm supposed to be at my "real" job. :)

And there is *plenty* more to add
