If I were more proficiant, I would be glad to, but I am relearning myself. I did quite a lot of welding in the mid 70's. It seems that WE both are novices. BTW, this comes from past experience. I flash burned my eyes once by looking at the arc before putting my hood down. The pain was fairly elevated. It felt like sand grit rubbing in my eye socket. I didn't even realize it at the time. I was told to peel a potato, slice it, and place the slices on my eye lids while closed. The next day, I was okay. The burning feeling even went away.

OK that's great ~ We learn together then...you have a head start though...LOL I will be very careful about my eyes..also careful about ventilation, I have read some terrible tales of folks that did not pay attention to what they were welding and what might be on it...in one case brake fluid..and they really were badly injured...I suppose one could even die from inhaling the bad stuff....Must be careful ;)

If you can in fact find parts, do you really want to have to order them or would it be easier to just go down to the welding supply to pick them up? Once you have a welder, you'll want to do more things with it. You can rent a small wire feed welder from Home Depot for a couple hours if you just have one repair to do.

Umm... personally, I would MUCH rather order them. Five minutes in front of the laptop, and they show up at my door a few days later, versus having to drive 25 minutes into Knoxville, hope they have what I need in stock, and then back again, possibly empty-handed.

A few days compared to about an hour? I hate being in the middle of something and can't finish because something goes wrong and I can't get the parts right away. What if all of sudden it starts feeding funny and needs a liner that might not even be changeable?

To each his own. My local welding supply doesn't have a stellar track record of having what I need the few times I have gone down there. And I'm seldom working on a project that is so urgent that I must finish it today. But I may be spoiled given that the majority of my welding is stick, and all you really need for that is electrodes.

Brin...if the welder works buy it...especially if it includes a gas bottle....even a decent cheapo hood is about $25...

When I went crabbing in Florida - Blue Crab - I used an old cooler, bought some chicken necks or wings, let them ripen, put them in a double Zip-Lock bag, and put them in the freezer before departing on my trip.Best wishes. BTW, are scallops in season? Cherry Stone Scallops are tender and delicious.
