Triton capacity questions

I bought a used Triton Elite trailer and would like to find out the weight capacity of this trailer.

Previous owner bought it from an auction, trailer is registered as a 1992 home made.

Model on frame is Triton Elite, it's aluminum, inside bed size is 6' 4" by 12', with a very sturdy aluminum arched ramp gate.

Axle is a Dexter 1 1/16" axle, axle crank arm measures 6 3/8". The only id on the axle is left crank arm 30-46, right crank arm 89-48.

I haven found any other model , id numbers on the trailer.

Any feedback appreciated.

How many lugs hold the tire on? Generally speaking, 5 lugs = 3500# axle. 6 lugs = 5200# axle. 8 lugs = 7000# axle.

Yep. Only other limiting factor is thr construction and coupler itself. Take the lowest of all these then make sure the tires have the needed capacity.

Coupler is rated @ 3500#

Wheels are 5 lug.

Tires are rated at 1100 #.

Looks like the tires are the limiting factor.

Yep. Throw some better tires under it and you are good for 3500# (minus trailer weight) if you have brakes. 2999 or less if you dont.

You might be able to find some more information on Triton's web site. We see a lot of their snowmobile trailer here in Michigan.

That depends on the state. Indiana does not require brakes till 3501# Kentucky does not require brakes at all.

It varies state to state.

True, but bigcontender is from NY and NY requires them on trailers over 3000#.

Got ya. Untill he gets more tires he is limited ti 2200# or about 1500# payload.

I removed the storage box from the front of this trailer to do a repair and found the original Triton data plate.
Trailer is a UT-10 with a 2500# gross weight capacity. Nice to know, thanks for the help.

Now the only problem is I now have the vin number for a trailer that I registered with NY state as a home maid. The previous owner bought this trailer at an auction without a registration so he got a home maid registration from NY. So my delima now is should I tell the NY dept of motor vechicle that this is not a home maid trailer and it has a vin number?

Especially if you ever get pulled over by an officer who is looking for a reason to give you a ticket...
