Of course! I'm planning on it! It could never have happened without the fine, thoughtful and heartfelt interaction from some of you around here. It's just taking a while.
No hurry, somethings take time. Just be sure to tell us when you publish.

Hey John I'm glad to hear you back on here, I know what you mean about work getting in the way. The only decent weather we have been having is during the week while I'm at work and I need wood cut and split!
I keep watching Southwest's site to see anything about Sandy. We ended up buying 6 ducks at the feed store, while getting chicken feed, could be interesting! Weasel had to check them out, we got through Shadow and Weasel sniffing butts after we brought them home.
It is still awful cold here to put them in the garage, so They are residing in the livingroom for now. At least Weasel and Shadow help keep watch over them. It is still funny to watch 2 full grown Wolves lay down and watch baby ducklins! Last night they made a peep and Weasel came flying out of the bedroom to find out WHY!
Take your time on the book, we want it right.lol

Randy,

Sounds like fun!

It's funny that you can simply tell a couple of wolves to leave the ducks alone, and they will.

We had a cat move into our shed. No idea where it came from. We kept seeing bird feathers around the yard and every once in a while the dogs would go crazy. Finally, Liye found the kitty. She simply told the dogs to leave her alone. Soon the cat was in the house and living with the dogs like they'd know each other since birth. Now if there is any kind of a disturbance, Bei Bei comes to find out what's up and make sure Kitty is OK.

Sandy was very curious about Kitty and wanted a closer look. But Kitty wanted no part of that dog. It was one of the reasons Sandy stayed outside as much as she did. And one of the things I'm sorry about with Sandy. She could have spent more time with her pack at times, in the evenings, in the house. While on patrol, late at night she would come to the front door and want to vist. I'd go out and spend some time with her, playing and getting wolf kisses, petting her tummy, but didn't let her in if Kitty was in.

We are planning a visit to Southwest on April 27 to visit Sandy and attend the "Wild About Wildlife Event" that they put on. We really want to see her and get some more pictures. See how she is adjusting and meet the staff. It's also time for another donation. I'd love it if another TBNer showed up too! But either way, we'll have a first hand report, some pictures and some video.

Yes John that trip sounds exciting, I wish it wasn't so far out there for me I would love to go out and see the place first hand. If any of your animals have any allergy problems watch them close, our vet says the allergies will be bad this year, she has already been seeing critters with allergies and it hasn't even got warm over here! Weasel had a bad one, skin bright red and itching like a mad man, he was losing his undercoat and just plain miserable. A shot of cortisone and some prednisone seems to have done the trick, now he is just ravenous!
I just hope he doesn't end up having another growing spurt, he is tall enough to get into trouble now! We stuck the ducks in the bath tub last night, so we could clean their pen, they are messier than chicks! Weasel had to watch them splash in the water.
We figured a few ducks would fit into the zoo, since we had decided to expand the chicken pen any ways, it has to be covered, we have a lot of red tail hawks and one in particular likes to sit in the cedar next to the coop!
Well John how is the house coming along, have you guys got moved in yet?
Have a good trip down and take lots of pictures of OUR girl I know we would like to see them.

Thanks Dave.

That is a very interesting article! I'd like to know how it died. It could even be poison.

The comments about coyotes being very important and not enough of them in Maine were also interesting.

What a beautiful dog! It seems there's a "white coyote" hybrid.

You are welcome John.
Wish I could have sent an article about a live white coyote, but it is interesting. I will try to keep an eye out for follow-up articles if they do a necropsy to determine the cause of death.

Yes Dave that was interesting, I didn't see where they said if it was a male or female. It looks like Shadow's brother Lobo he has the same long fur. Shadow's fur is short and thick, you can't part it enough to see skin in the winter. Could be a coy-wolf that would explain the color variation
also, but that was interesting though.

I got a quick video of Sandy on Easter. It was sent to me by Southwest with an update on her. I only wish it was longer, but she looks good. I'm having trouble uploading it, but I'll work on it and get it posted.

There's a wild male coyote that has been hanging around outside her enclosure. They sometimes get along and sometimes she tries to run him off. But at least she is getting a bit of interaction with another, and a wild, coyote. They also allow Herbert, her dog friend seen in an earlier picture I posted, to visit her occasionally. They're hoping to have a permanent companion for her pretty soon. She also seems to be adapting to her limited surroundings, as well as can be hoped for, with a stable mental state, trust and friendship with the folks there.

They are also getting her some rabbit meat as an occasional treat. She loves that.

Within that setting, I don't see how she could be treated any better. But, of course, she should be here roaming our land and having fun with us.

We are planning a visit soon and I went to the supermarket to try and get some rabbit for her. None in stock, of course. So I asked the meat guy if I could get it. It seems he can order it, but there is a minimum order that a group of stores must meet. So he can't predict when it will come in. Expensive too.

He confirmed that it comes skinned, gutted and no head.

He suggested that I just go out and shoot one to keep it simple. "They're all over the place"

Somehow, the conversation worked it's way toward our reason for asking. I said that I could not show up with one from the wild that was not certified healthy in some way. Hmmmm. Then we, somehow, got to the real reason for wanting it. For Sandy. As I expanded on my story, he stood there, mouth hanging open, blank stare and no comment, with the exception of a subtle evaluation process (I could practically see the wheels turning) to determine if I was playing a trick on him or just plain crazy.

The response was something like this:
"A special order, certified, expensive, skinned, frozen, rabbit..............................maybe two or three............but not taken from the thousands that live all over our area.......................to give to a coyote........................that lives 750 miles away..................... and you are going to deliver it?"

After this clarification, the silence was deafening. I've been laughing ever since.

Yes John that was a short clip, but she seemed to like her egg. I found another shot of her!

She looks healthy and alert. That's a funny story about trying to buy rabbits at the grocery store.

Randy,

Thanks for checking. Things have gotten complicated and busy around here lately. Moving, Mom's sick, work demands, building deadlines, etc. Sheesh. I even had to delay our trip to see Sandy. So, it's "head down and running for the light at the end of the tunnel" right now.

Stay in touch.

Thanks for the update John! I know about running around like a chicken with their head cut off! Hope your Mom gets better, and things settle down.
