Open Carry

I'll just say I agree and have said so...The only reason I can see why someone would openly carry a sidearm into a store like Walmart or down the street or anywhere in public would be to draw attention to themselves...It must give them some sort of Macho feeling....I think it sets them up as a target for any bad guys out there...Think about it...If you are a bad guy up to no good and you see some guy carrying a gun....Who are you going to take out first...?

Because it is so rare to open carry many folks seeing someone with a gun, call the police...I think some of the open carry folks are looking for a confrontation with the police...I say this because on gun blogs I have read their posts .:2cents:

I agree....good post.

In Ohio too.

I have seen & once or twice done is years ago "Just Because" if we dont exercise our rights it will be much easier for the government to deem them unnecessary. My brother used to be more open carry & had some cops give him hassles back in the day. It serves to make your name known to the cops and the chance of records and or false claims against you gets much higher. This is what happened to my brother due to BS cop thinking he was bigger and the cop ended up filing false charges & when it is cop vs citizen the courts take the cops word even above witnesses.

I agree, as well. At the very least, it would also seem to invite unwanted coversation.
BTW, I've got a thread going on Related Topics about concealed carry holsters, and I would value any additional input.
Thanks.

James laid out the statues in Missouri and I have only seen open carry rarely, I did so prior to the concealed carry law when I was working on one of our farms as that was my only option as well as when hunting prior to the law passed allowing concealed carry in National Forests.

I don't open carry and don't see the advantage, but it doesn't bother me and there may well be some places where it is common, I just haven't seen it.

When I was in the military I was back home in Montana hunting one year and had my pistol on my hip. Stopped at the local country store to buy some stuff after coming down out of the mountains. Brushed my jacket back and reached to get my wallet out of my back pocket, the lady behind me in line gasped and I think almost soiled herself ;) Musta been an import, it was hunting season and half my holster was visible below my jacket line ;)

At one time there was a sporting goods store in the mall that sold guns. I personally walked through the mall with an .30-06 across my back and nobody looked twice ;) Would not want to do that in today's environment.

I was curious. I was running it through my head as I walked to my truck. I couldn't figure out any kind of law enforcement reason to be in civilian clothes and open carry. I had heard that when our guys come back from serving overseas they feel naked without a weapon. Could be. They had the look. I have seen a black cargo trailer in the neighborhood with a sign for something like black dragon tactical. I had been curious about that too. Maybe they were part of that. Now if I was paranoid I 'd be hoping that curiosity didn't kill the cat.

I agree with everything you say but didn't want to be the one to pull the trigger on it hahaha

I saw my county sheriff openly carry while in a store. He did have his badge displayed next to his holster.:laughing::laughing:

Other than him, I have only seen a woman walking alone on a rural road openly carrying. Some places in NC this would be a problem because of local regulations.

Dan
