If precip holds off will go place more riprap on bank. Good day to all and hopefully Roy gets his house and David works thru his marital problems. Will say prayers for those I know and don't know. Have a great Palm Sunday

Good morning! 49˚and clear. The Big Question: Will it Freeze here????
The mesquite are out and tomorrow's low calls for 32˚. That is a rare occurrence as the leafy mesquite around here is a sign that there will be no more freezing and most people have their gardens started. The very last tree to leaf are the pecan and they are still in winter mode.

If we do have a frost I'll loose all the wild plums and my corn. Hopefully it will be a few degrees warmer than predicted.

txdon:

I too am watching the temps closely. I could take some old bedsheets and cover a portion of the garden, but fear I would lose most of it, if we do freeze. 39* this morning, and calling for 31 tonight and tomorrow night.

Mid 40's now, 28 this morning, rain and snow through Tuesday, but it appears the pattern is about break and we'll be near normal by week's end.

Folks, it's the most holy week in Christianity from now through Easter Sunday, may you all roll the stone away!

Cloudy with showers today, high of 9C/48F.
Yesterday I started cutting my second area of logs into firewood rounds. Nice thing is on these ones I can get my tractor into the area for loading and moving them to my splitting area near the chicken coop.

George, those rounds in the first picture look all neat and stacked while not giving any hint of the work required to get them there. The 2nd and 3rd photos tell the story. It's hard work cutting, trimming, bucking and hauling. I think I'd go through a lot of Advil.

Wow Mousefield, your splitting area is far neater than mine, I usually just dump the bucket and go. Chase a few rollers every now and then. ;)

32º this morning and going up near 50 this afternoon. It's been full sun for the last three days.

Pulled the mower apart yesterday and gave it a good service. Had to order a new belt but it won't be at NAPA until Monday, I'm hoping the one I have will hold long enough to get some mowing done today.

This is only about a quarter of the rounds I will end up hauling to the splitting area. I have orders for 7 cords of wood. It is all fir. This will be the most and likely the last firewood I will sell, don't want to cut down too many trees.
The money is going to help finance my trip to Germany later this year. After much, did I say much (like months on the internet), research I found the children of my father's sister a few weeks ago. She was the only know relative on my father's side to have survived the war and ended up in East Germany.
The first big clue was a birthday announcement congratulating her on her 90th birthday in a newspaper dated the year 2000. I have learnt that my aunt died in 2003. My father's other siblings all died during the war. After I found out what city (from the newspaper) she was in I made a list of all the people with her last name. The first one I called on the list of over 60 names I had ended up being her son, my cousin was absolutely astonished that I found them. I came to Canada as a young boy in 1956 but can still, with some difficulty, speak and understand German. I mailed him a letter and I got one in return this Wednesday.
And to be honest I find myself quite emotional about this.
