I picked up some old MF haying gear, and part of it is this MF42 sickle bar mower(or finger mower as they call them down here in Australia).

I cant find much info on this model - I managed to get a manual for an MF32 which is similar but not quite the same. These style of mowers appear to be more popular in the U.S. than down here these days, so am hoping someone can answer a couple of questions for me?

Firstly I need to replace an adjustable link(far right link in the circled section below), which is bent and metal fatigued, but I cant quite work out what the purpose of the mechanism it attaches to is for? Going from my MF32 manual I think its attached to something called a "gag link" assembly? Best guess I can come up with is that it lifts the end of the bar when the 3pt is raised? Is this correct?

Next, is there a height adjustable shoe missing from this end of the bar? I can see some cutting height adjustment from the inside shoe but cant see any on this end?

You are correct. It looks like you can remove it. Apply some heat and tap it flat again and reinstall. I've seen manuals to these on a regular basic on the US eBay site.

Go to www.agcopartsbook.com

Look to the top left BROWSE > BROWSE BOOKS > AGCO CORP > Massey Ferguson > Partsbook > Hay Equuipment > Mowers > 42

There you will find an exploded view of your mower where you can compare to see if any part is missing. If you are running IE9 then you probably have Microsoft Silverlight installed to view the diagrams. Then the diagrams can be zoomed and printed. The bar you mentioned first is listed in the diagram as a spring. It may be designed to look that way to absorb inertia when bringing the mower blade back to it's parked position. -robert

I looked up a 42 mower on agcopartsbooks.com and found the height shoe you speak of on the end of the bar is item #31 part no. 669471m91 and is called a runner assembly. The bent part is #15 and is called a stud - position lock part no. 581377m1.

Great thanks guys - unfortunately when I go to that site it tells me I need to register for an account through my local Agco dealership to access the parts books.

So does that mean I can still order these parts through an Agco dealer?

Look a little further down from the login and there is a "guest" login

Is there a box below the sign in box that says guest user? ours does. You should be able to order these parts through an AGCO dealer if the parts are still available but I would hope so since its not that old. They still have parts for the old tractors.

I must be getting a different login screen to you guys - I cant see any guest login :(

I tried changing my location to North America but it then just sits there trying to load and going no where.

It's possible that they have it blocked in your country. You're in Victoria Australia... correct? Seems like I recall someone else having the same trouble in the past, where they solved it by using a U.S. based proxy server...

What URL did you put in?

It should be http://www.agcopartsbook.com. Then use the Guest log in.

It states on your picture you posted the site is unavailable at this very time on your side of the globe. Try again later.

Yeah I've been trying that address but it auto redirects to AGCO Parts Books

The dates for the maintenance downtime say this weekend so I assumed it would still be ok, regardless I'm not having much luck with a US based proxy either, it just times out. I will give it a try again later.

In the meantime I may just ring my closest Agco dealer with the part numbers mentioned above and see what they can do - cheers guys.

I've also got a MF #12 baler I may need some bits for, I dont suppose its on the agco parts book website too?

It could be the proxy you're using. I just checked and it's working fine... but I'm in the U.S. Here is what you should see once you finally get it working.

I did this snippet earlier and I believe it has the parts# mentioned.

Excellent, thanks for that.

I did manage to find a proxy that let me into the guest login - but the code for browsing the books then didnt appear to work!

I'll have another try later when I have some time to kill.

You'll need to download and install Microsoft Silverlight from Microsoft. It's free and it's a hybrid type PDF viewer with zoom, print options. Anything under the AgCo flag is viewable there. Take care. -robert

Well I finally found a proxy server which worked with the agco parts books site and managed to not only get all parts breakdown for my MF42 mower but also my MF12 baler! Now to make a trip to my local AGCO dealer!

Here's a pic of my Australian delivered MF35 for those interested. I'm planning a bit of a tidy up of it soon as well. It's the Standard 23C 4-cylinder diesel.

That's good to hear. That site is handier that a shirt pocket. I don't know whats up with the Proxy. The way I've normally gotten into it doesn't want to let me print. I'll try another proxy server. Occasionally I see parts for those on our US ebay. With the drawings, if you can't find a replacement part, you might be able to fabricate one. Take care. -robert
