Found a coyote, I think

If you have ever come across fox/coyote/wolf/raccoon poop while hiking, the first thing you notice is that it is very firm, that there is hair and often seeds, and it lacks a foul odor. Any of these animals raised in captivity and fed dog food produce a loose, foul smelling stool.

Yep, it's the dog foods that give dogsh** a bad name. :laughing: My wife feeds her dogs raw meat and bones, pumpkin, tuna, etc. Makes a huge difference in the stool.

Bones are good nutrition but make sure they're pulverized; domestic canids need that

Thx, I will pass that along. Most of the bones they get are chicken legs, thighs, wings. They are big enough to pulverize those on their own. They really like beef rib bones with a little meat on them, but they take a long time working on the bones, I could see pulverizing would get the benefit of the bones into them better.

There are people who feed their pack of dogs once in a while by tossing a fresh road kill deer in the yard.

That calls for an obligatory joke!
Park Rangers are advising hikers to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter.
They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them which might cause a bear to charge.
Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away.
It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat.
Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur. Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.

Not so nice but, reminds me of a time when flying out to a beach on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. One of us had brought a 44mag revolver just in case. We had a passenger just up from Seattle along that had been giving the pistol packer kind of a bad time, one of the comments, well i guess it was one of the last comments, was, 'now what did you bring your big gun for?' Reply:'Just in case we see a bear' she said: 'so i suppose your going to shoot the bear with your big gun', 'nope i wouldn't hurt the bear, id just shoot one of you'

Outdoors men should be on the watch for bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear feces and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces is smaller and has lots of berries and squirrel fur in it. Grizzly bear feces has bells in it, and smells like pepper.

I'm here. But no news on Sandy. Southwest has used her picture a couple of times in their newsletter, but that's not news. I mention her in conversation a lot and some people have been very interested in her story, reading it here on TBN and then telling me how touched they were. My neighbor loaned me a book a couple of weeks ago and the story resembles Sandy's. She though it might be an interesting example for me to structure Sandy's book. It is a very nice story about a quail. It's called, "That quail, Robert" by Margaret Stanger. I liked it so much I ordered four books to give away. It's on Amazon for about $4.00. or so. You might like it too.

Meanwhile I'm writing, as I get the time, and we're thinking of a trip to Southwest. Work can sure get in the way!

We miss her very much and I'm amazed at the lasting affect she had on us.

It's really great to see you checking in and staying in touch.
