900 Hour Valve Adjustment

Both tractors had/have more power than traction, so maybe if I put more ballast on the L5740 I could see a significant difference. I thought about adding wheel weights to it, but then just decided if I need more power/weight, I would just go get the M8540.

I also love the HST+ and the AC is stronger, so it's not that the L5740 isn't an improved tractor, just that the L5030 is still a pretty good machine and there are really no overwhelming reasons to "trade up".:)

Those are encouraging words about keeping my L5030. I was wondering do you have your rears loaded? It adds like 1100 lbs for me.

Yes, I have the rear tires on all my tractors loaded even the little BX. I keep my 1100 pound box scraper or rotary cutter on for ballast, but of course when I am digging dirt it doesn't help and wheel weights would, but then I would be lugging all that extra weight around at times when I don't really need it; what to do, what to do.

I not only load the rear tires but also add about1000 extra lbs off the rear with a weighted box blade. Very necessary when picking up max FEL load.

For the life of me I don't understand why you guys hijack a post and discuss stuff that has nothing to do with the original topic! Why don't you just start another topic?

Because the OP KOLBRNR requested additional information after we answered his initial question to the best of our ability.

Kolbrnr, I also suggest you have the FEL hydraulic pressure checked and brought to spec. On my L5030 it was significantly under spec and when brought up the lifting capacity was VERY MUCH increased. Several others have had this experience as well...I think they are shipped from the factory under spec. But, be sure and have sufficient rear weight....else you will lift rear off ground before bypass valve kicks in at new pressure point.

Can't say I have ever seen valves out of adjustment in 800 hrs on any quality diesel engine. Unless you can't sleep at night if you don't I would not worry about it until you double the hours.

I called the dealer today and they didn't seam too alarmed about not doing the valve adjustment. They said it all depends if you plan on keeping it forever. The 5704's are looking better and better.

I also will take your advise and get the loader valve checked. They just put a gauge on it and see how much pressure it puts out. Good call.

Thanks to all who have helped me. Russ

So what are they saying? If you don't plan on keeping it forever then no need to maintain it?
