Cold snap all across the nation! Up here on the Minnesota/Manitoba border we had a "brisk" -32F this morning, with more cold to follow all week. Wind chill values are estimated to be near -47! This pic was taken from inside my truck on the way to work. It was a quiet country road, so I had the luxury of being able to stop for a moment and snap the picture with no fear of any traffic.

What's it like where you live? Everybody chime in.

Joe

-30 celcuis and -45 with wind chill. Better plug your tractors and trucks in if you want them to start in the morning.

Windmills do not seem to be slowing the wind down. It was only -10, The driving wind made it cold after a few hours.

Gracious, you people should be frozen solid. You must be drinking beer to keep from freezing...

Winter finally arrived in my area of NC. The low will be 25 tomorrow and 20 on Wednesday! The high all week wont get over 41 until Sunday. Too cold for me. You danged polar bear Yankees need to keep this cold weather up by youse guys!:laughing::laughing: We hooked up a heat lamp for the chickens tonight.

I saw a weather record over the weekend that said in 1977 it was -7 or some such and in 1943 it was in the upper 80s. I was living in KY in '77 and we had a couple of feet of snow and the Ohio river froze!

Later,
Dan

Wow, its warm here comparably! It was in the 20's today, but should be below zero the next few nights with highs in the teens. I used to live further from the coast and remember fighting to start the car in -40 don't miss that at all.

Only four below this morning but the forcast calls for much colder tonight. The wind was blowing yesterday and the snow conditions were just right for snow roses to form. It looks like the wind faries were having a snow ball fight in my daughters fields and some of them are a foot tall. The weatherman said it was the first time in thirty years with those conditions. I can't say he is wrong as I don't remember the last time I saw them.

Dmccarty;I was in Ky the winter of '77-'78. Kids got out of school for Christmas break, 21 or 22 of December and didn't go back to school till Feb. It's in the low teens now, wind 10-15. I have a neighbor that calls it the "Wind Chill Factory".......he don't get out much.

I was born in January 24, 1977 in Dayton Ohio, so every year on my birthday I get to hear the story of how Dad's 1966 Impala was one of the few cars that would start. A police officer was stationed at the hospital entrance so no one would steal the car since it was running and Dad couldn't shut it off. Weeks of -20's and many of the records still show up from that year on the weather reports.

Thankfully I don't remember it and it hasn't been that cold since around here. Tomorrow morning it is supposed to be 5 with 15-20 mph winds. That is plenty cold for me. Bring on spring.

We had 22 degrees and 4 plus inches of snow. Now the snow stops, skys clear and temps drop. Zero to -10 for the next few nights. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!:)

Hey, we're friendly up here. We like to share!:D

I use a milk house heater. It'a about 28 in the coop during this sub-zero plunge. Not bad.

All of the rivers and lakes freeze for the entire winter up here. Entire ice fishing communities spring up on the lakes. Looks like frozen Hoovervilles!

I guess all this global cooling is having an effect on everyone!!! I'm not trying to start a argument.

A police officer was stationed at the hospital entrance so no one would steal the car since it was running and Dad couldn't shut it off

That's what I do most of the time with the truck if I'm only going to be less than 1/2hour at a place. Just leave it running. I'll leave the tractor at a high idle for over a hour sometimes while I shovel the walkways and along the garage.

Always carry Booster Cables and a tow strap in this cold weather and can't forget my warm gloves and rabbit fur hat. (I do get laughed at, wearing it to school but at lease I'm warm)
