Well dgoyette, you probably haven't been here long enough to know this, but the ultra conservative label really doesn't fit me as well as you think. I was called a liberal by many conservatives up until 4-5 years ago, as one of our members 2lanecruzer can attest. I'm a democrat as my voter registration proves. Problem is the democrats have elected leaders that would do Marx proud. John Kennedy's positions on welfare, taxes and small business would have made him a likely front runner for the republican nomination. Yes I believe in God, I'm not anti abortion, but I oppose it as a means of birth control when so many means exist and are readily available free of charge. Women's rights are one thing, their failure to use safe sex is another. The 2nd Amendment is not debatable to me, it means what it says, as does the first. I do champion white people's causes, why shouldn't I? Every other race champions theirs! That doesn't mean I have a dislike for people of color, my dad's best friend was a black man, and dad grew up in northern Alabama. When you start painting people, use a brush appropriate for the job.
As for you being what I guess you see as some sort of moderate, when you stop denigrating every conservative idea and talking up every liberal one, you might be credibly accepted as a moderate.

Yes but I was agreeing with him on a particular post. And that is because I am a Republican who happens to be Agnostic (soon to be Independent), and am having some of the same difficulties with certain ultra-conservative members. I don't have to be far right or left on every topic. If you are all Right Wing on every topic or Left Wing on every topic something is not quite right.

And I do not agree with Islandtractor AT ALL on firearms. But I do agree that some members should step outside of their comfort zone and stop dismissing everything different as "lib" That certainly does happen and I have seen it. I have been called a liberal on this very site because of my agnostic view. And he is also right that the white republican is not as influential on elections as in years past, and that is expected to continue. Not just Islandtractors opinion, it is a widely accepted fact that I also, like it or not, think is true.

So to clairify. My postion is and has been in all my posts:

1. Pro 2nd amendment rights
2. Pro full separation of church and state
3. Embracing others who are different and acceptance of everyone regardless of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs.
4. Pro smaller government and less spending

That is who I am, call me a liberal, conservative, atheist, hateful, whatever. But that is who I am. If anyone thinks I cannot agree with Islandtactor when he has a view I share that is not my issue. This forum has definitely showed me that the Republican party is imploding and I am moving to Independent. The party's biggest issue is the "all or nothing" attitude. If you are a Republican you must stand conservative on every issue or you are a "Liberal". It will be the final nail in the coffin. The Democrats don't do this to their party members which is probably why most Independents caucus with the Democratic Party.

With ideas like that we may just need to consider you a gun totin' agnostic liberal with some vestigial conservative ideas or maybe just a traditional pre TeaParty Yankee or midwestern republican. In either case I like the open minded consideration of issues you advocate.

You mean like my stringent pro gun stance, and my firm opinion on shrinking social programs, welfare, and making government smaller. You mean those Liberal views? See what you want and label me as you wish.

The closed minded always see an issue with free thinkers. There seem to be a lot of folks who need a political party to make their decisions for them. I'm definitely not one of them. And I would say all of the really great men in the history of the world were free thinkers and not mindless sheep who need validation only from a specific political party.

Yeah, I admit I did not see you as a live and let live fella in our first interaction. But I have developed a good respect for your honest and your clear love for our country. Don't agree with everything you say, and don't have to. I like that I never have to wonder where you stand on an issue.:thumbsup:

Let's see....IT thinks we are a bunch of old white guys suffering from declining influence and needing to compensate by taking it out on him. What a hoot.

All the Dems have going for them is that Obama has put together a shaky coalition of interest groups who all have their hands out and if any one or two don't get their payoff then the whole thing crashes. The Republicans just need to maintain their composure and pick up the Senate in 2014. There are some very vulnerable Demcratic seats coming up. If conservatives work hard it's very possible the Senate and be taken from Harry Reid and Obama.

As bad as I hated to see Obama reelected I am looking forward to seeing him hammered on everything possible in the next four years.

In Texas, btw, we have a more conservative state legislature, a very good new US Senator, more local elected offices were picked up in the last election, our state party is in good shape and we have identified areas where we will work to gain influence in the next few election cycles.

I'm really looking forward to the legislative session starting in January and upcoming elections.

Sorry not meant to offend you, but it really is not such a broad brush. I have had a lot of people just as I described interact with me. I don't agree with Islandtractor on much, but I can agree with him on this. I am not stuck to a certain belief. I can think independently and freely and am not afraid of change. It seems many members are. I didn't mention ANY names...but it is not hard to determine who I mean if you look at the postings since the CT shooting.

I have also interacted with liberals open to some conservative views and conservatives open to some liberal views. But there are some that are so darn stuck, it's sad.
