How about we just call them Americans?

Well, because we need a catchy non pejorative term for that subgroup of Americans who are just beginning to come to terms with their relative change in political influence. Something like Blue Dog Democrats (though I never understood what blue dogs had to do with it), the term accurately labelled a group of the less liberal typically Southern rural Democratic representatives to Congress.

Yes but I was agreeing with him on a particular post. And that is because I am a Republican who happens to be Agnostic (soon to be Independent), and am having some of the same difficulties with certain ultra-conservative members. I don't have to be far right or left on every topic. If you are all Right Wing on every topic or Left Wing on every topic something is not quite right.

And I do not agree with Islandtractor AT ALL on firearms. But I do agree that some members should step outside of their comfort zone and stop dismissing everything different as "lib" That certainly does happen and I have seen it. I have been called a liberal on this very site because of my agnostic view. And he is also right that the white republican is not as influential on elections as in years past, and that is expected to continue. Not just Islandtractors opinion, it is a widely accepted fact that I also, like it or not, think is true.

So to clairify. My postion is and has been in all my posts:

1. Pro 2nd amendment rights
2. Pro full separation of church and state
3. Embracing others who are different and acceptance of everyone regardless of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs.
4. Pro smaller government and less spending

That is who I am, call me a liberal, conservative, atheist, hateful, whatever. But that is who I am. If anyone thinks I cannot agree with Islandtactor when he has a view I share that is not my issue. This forum has definitely showed me that the Republican party is imploding and I am moving to Independent. The party's biggest issue is the "all or nothing" attitude. If you are a Republican you must stand conservative on every issue or you are a "Liberal". It will be the final nail in the coffin. The Democrats don't do this to their party members which is probably why most Independents caucus with the Democratic Party.

Just now catching up on all of this and admit am getting a bit burned out.

Our positions are pretty much the same on those you mentioned.

I have been an Independent for years and vote Democrat, Republican and Libertarian depending on the candidate and issues. I simply cannot support any one party.

So your solution is to keep the country from recovering and moving forward for another 4 years. Maybe a more positive approach and some give an take would be more productive. Is your hate for Obama greater than your love for our country?

It's all about compromise, no one gets their way all the time. I am willing to compromise on some issues for the good of the nation. I think some extremists feel compromise is losing, or showing weakness / failure. It is not. In this context it is about working together, really communicating, and getting the job done to the benefit of the nation as a whole.

We compromise daily in our households don't we? Well most of us anyway, I do think some households are run in dictatorship fashion but those are likely the exception. Anyway if we can do it in our households on a smaller scale why can't we accomplish the same in our politics? Stubbornness.

Well, you used all the standard liberal bullet point phrases. It's so funny to me how the liberals want to bash conservatives for being 'stubborn', 'hating obama', 'dictators', etc, etc,etc when this phrases all apply more to the liberals than others.

Obama had four years. He can't turn anything around because his policies are failures. The economy may turn around some but it's going to continue struggling if Obama keeps up his tactics. And, I hope he does. The people need to see how bad it can be. conservatives don't make it worse by pointing out the failures of obama.

Grow up. Stop demanding that everyone sugar coat everything that Obama does and stop making excuses. Open your eyes to reality and see things as they really are.

Moderate Republicans, working in hand with President Bush are a big reason spending has gone wild in the past. We don't need more of the same. This is the message of the Tea Party: Stop the madness now. Obama himself, said we are broke. See what good sound bites have done. Compromise is a dirty word. Going along to get a long, has gotten us into this mess.

Just now catching up on all of this and admit am getting a bit burned out.

As I have mentioned, I am in my mid sixties, actually sixty-five and have not only been called a Liberal, but was one for a long time. I have also been very conservative. I have always studied both sides of everything to the point I have been referred to as "wishy washy" and often identified with the "Marginal Man" theory. My staff referred to me as "The Researcher"; don't know what they called me out of earshot.:laughing:

When teaching/training staff who had to make decisions regarding public safety, victims' rights, incarceration, terms etc., I often argued or made them argue both sides.

At my age, I think my beliefs are pretty much set though some less set in stone than others, I have struggled with the issue of abortion almost all of my life and only recently settled the issue for me as much as I believe I ever will. I try not to discuss it as having been on both sides, I can't really disagree with any degree of conviction; we believe what we believe.

My positions are pretty much the same those you mentioned though we may disagree on others. A full discussion and explanations would include too much information and eyes would soon glaze over, so I will skip that.

I have deleted a significant portion of my post, so I am sure I haven't covered some issues.

I agree....good points...

I agree...the left depends on conservatives being too polite to fight for their convictions, the are used to conservatives caving and going along to get along.....
