A point that seems to have been missed in this article is that now people who have to steal guns, because they can't buy them, now know where to go. And all criminals have a list of places where they might be confronted by someone more heavily armed than themselves, and thus to avoid. This simultaneously exposes those who presumably do not own guns. So tell me again -- what was the intent of the newspaper that published the list of registered gun owners?

And the guy who wrote the article, sanctimoniously cloaking himself in self-righteous anger...has a concealed carry permit himself!! but did he disclose that??

Got some more good news today on our government subversion of our rights & freedoms. they renewed their electronic surveillance with no warrant required of anyone with contact in/out of USA. Only 3 Senators had objections or requests for more transparency "Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and Rand Paul from KY."

Ohio Dumocrats are now trying to also regulate guns by tossing people in jail for a year if their guns are stolen out of their homes or found unlocked around kids.

FYI ole Dennis Kucinich finally OUT after messing up Ohio politics for a very long time. glad to see him go he likes to talk about growing up with hard times and talking how the government has to help yet only reason he actually made something of himself is no one gave him/them anything. SO he worked to give away everything to everyone in any hardship so the fighting spirit is killed off that was once fostered in himself.

have some good listening.

It's just too bad they weren't there in November. We can shorten the misery by two years if they get fed up enough that the Senate can be taken back from the Democrats and obama's regime limited severely.

Start getting them lined up to vote in 2014.

.

2014 could be a time of change in congress, however, using executive administrative powers to change political policies will continue on for 4 more years. It will take 8 or more years after that to straighten out the mess we are headed into now. Ken Sweet

How are you going to determine who's unbalanced? Mental health records are not available to the public.

They aren't treated differently. Those are public records and are available to all. However, you rarely see names of people with pilot's licenses or liquor licenses or driver's licenses published in the paper unless they did something wrong, are up for review, or are involved in an altercation.

You don't run a background check on the parents of every classmate that your child goes to attend a birthday party at, do you? No. You get to know the parents of your child's peers through interaction at school functions, sporting events, friends of friends, church, talks over the fence, by the mailbox, etc...These are things that you are supposed to ask a child's playmate's parents before you send them over to play unsupervised if its something you are concerned about. Do you ask them if they have unsecured steak knives, fireworks, gasoline and matches, too? No. You observe the parents and families of your children's friends and make judgements as you go.

Publishing the names and addresses of all the people that have a legal permit to carry a firearm will do absolutely nothing to prevent anything.

Take the case of the mass school shooting two weeks ago....

The firearms were legally owned by the mother, not the son.
He didn't use the gun show loophole to obtain them.
No background check would have caught him because he got the guns from his mother.
A waiting period to purchase would not have prevented it.
The assault weapons ban wouldn't have prevented it as there are literally hundreds of thousands of these weapons already on the market.
A ban on large capacity magazines would not have prevented it. He would have just carried more 10 round clips for any large caliber semi-automatic hunting rifle.
The woman had the proper permits. That made no difference.
The woman was trained to use the firearms, yet the son got them from her and killed her. Training made no difference.

With over 300 million guns legally possessed by citizens in the U.S. do you really think you can ever remove them from circulation? The guns are not the problem. Homicide is the problem. You are more likely to be blown up by a mass murderer than shot by a mass murderer.

Sick individuals have always been and will always be. They will find ways to commit homicide. Publishing the names of people that are concerned enough with their own personal safety to go through the proper and legal process to obtain a permit to carry a firearm for personal protection is just sensationalist journalism by a writer or newspaper trying to stir readership for personal financial gain.

Well said, I like the way you think, sir.

The "gimmie class" grew greatly under Obama over the last four years no doubt but from everything I have seen there were just too many voters who stayed home for various reasons and who should get motivated to vote in 2014.
I (among many) was perplexed with the (unfortunate) results...I honestly thought that there had never been a better reason to rid ourselves of someone so detached from the populous that actually funds the gov.
Thus my ideal that if a citizen does not actually pay federal income tax they should not have the right to vote for anyone that has the power to use/spend the funds generated by said taxes...

The results in Nov. have led me to believe that we are no better than any of the 3rd world countries that were once admonished...now it seems they are something to beheld and exemplified...

We are a republic,, and not the president nor congress can change the Bill Of Rights... The supreme court has already ruled{ the Right To Keep And Bear Arms Shall Not Be Abridged... } Shall we publish the names and addresses of the author , publisher, and owner of this paper? along with the statement that they do not own guns,, but probably have more jewelry than a hand gun is worth?? Would that be proper?? Just asking??

I bet it's higher than 50% ! If you look at an electoral map of the US that shows each voting district not just which state is red or blue it is ALL red except for the cities! The big cities are what make it's state blue, the countryside is all red, but their voice dosent count thanks to the electoral college. Only a small percentage of our 310 million or so actually get to the voting booth.

You seem a little confused. The electoral college actually favors the smaller population rural states as even the states with very small populations get proportionately MORE representation than urbanized states. States get electoral votes based on a formula based on congressional representation. Minimum of 3, as each state gets one electoral vote for each senator and congressman. So, Wyoming with around 550,000 citizens gets three electoral votes. Massachusetts with 6,500,000 population gets 11. MA has 12 times the population but gets less than four times as many electoral votes. So yes there is an imbalance and it favors the rural Red states.

That's what was so funny, so many Republicans are so out of touch with the fact that things have already changed. Obama should not have been able to win this election with the shape the country is in. I do think he got some slack from voters because he inherited the mess, but still with the economy still so poor the Republican Party should have easily won the office.

Time to wake up and start being more reasonable. The Republican party is destroying itself. If we go over the fiscal cliff the Majority of Americans, (including me) will blame our own Party. Boehner gave the Republican party yet another black eye by proposing a tax reform bill that not even his own party would support. That is pretty petty and shows unwillingness to work with others. In two years the house is up. Wake up. If Republicans don't get more tolerant and more willing to work with others (and actually doing it not just saying it) it will be a Democratic president, house, and senate. Then you will see bills and legislation fly through. And not legislation you will like I suspect.

I am thinking of becoming an independent because the Republican party is getting more and more out of touch.

I agree with your analysis. Question is whether the Tea Party faction starts behaving like politicians who must reach compromise or if they remain unbending missionaries.

In a perfect world that would be great, however, in the US there are hundreds of millions of firearms, so many that confiscation or eradication of them would be impossible. So even with honest , law abiding citizens turning in their weapons...all of them and the police kicking in doors to try and find the rest ...the criminal element will still always have semi and fully automatic weapons..so all that would be accomplished would be to prevent honest folks from having firepower equal to what a criminal might attack them with... Has the gun crime gone down in Chicago or NY city where they have long standing gun bans...?
