How you figure, Hoss? Auto workers build the final product. Not oversee the financial dept. at GM headquarters in Detroit the last time I checked. You just keep buying Toyota's and feeding Japanese families. I do dig your tractor though.

I have no problem with with the auto workers themselves, I DO despise the fact that Obama gave all the power back to the UAW after the bailout. I'm from the south and you won't find any union love around these parts. Ask Boeing why they moved here to SC:) I come from a Chevrolet family. My mom owns a Malibu, dad has owned several GM trucks and I have owned two GM trucks myself. My family alone has given you PLENTY of our money over the years. I will say that your quality fell off bad from the 2004 truck to the 2011 truck I owned. Why I went to Toyota was due to many reasons but the main ones were the Colorado/canyon are not worth the tres they roll on, I wanted to stick it to Obama any way I could, and my tacoma is worlds better then both GM trucks I owned. The quality is night and day, they do the little things GM never thought about doing. Like I said no disrespect to you personally but I will not be supporting GM anytime soon. Oh and I'm sure those Toyota employees in San Antonio that built my truck are enjoying my money just fine:)

Thanks for the tractor compliment! I'm a Massey fan second to Deere.

I'm from the south also. Born and raised in Athens, GA. Lived there for over 30 years. I started with GM in Doraville, GA. Alot of my friends and family worked at the Ford plant near the airport also. Both plants are now closed. My uncle worked and retired from Lockheed in Atlanta (union also). Alot of union jobs did leave the South. Not sure its because southerners are against them though. If it was up to me, GM and Ford would still be cranking out vehicles in GA. We still have 2 assembly plants in the South. One in Tennessee and one in Kentucky. Mabe I'll transfer back down that way one day. Sorry you have had bad luck with our products. I'm well aware of where the Tundra is made. Toyota was given all kinds of tax breaks by the state to get that plant there. As far as quality, your chalking it up to your personal let down. The 07 to present bodystyle truck has had great quality ratings. The Colorado and Canyon's are now trucks of the past. They were built in Shrevport, LA. (another southern plant closed). The replacements will be built in Wentzville, MO. Totally new trucks from the ground up. It's funny to me you say there is no love for unions in your (our) parts......Mabe from the large corp's view.

It didn't really save jobs but it did protect the union.

Yep. And to say they paid it back is a insult. Its just a shifting of money at best. There is no way they saved a mollion jobs. Those jobs will be there no matter what build parts for manufactures who build market share.

Yeah that was the thing that pissed me off most about the elections. The dishonest media coverage. Inept or really dishonest. Just throw Romney a bone guys, you know those jobs wouldn't have gone away if he was at the controls.

Anyway, I'm really interested in seeing the next Suburban come out.

The things that stuck out to me in my Tacoma compared to my 2011 Sierra (figured this would be a more fair comparison then using my 2004 Z71):

1. when you shut the door on the Tacoma it is air tight. you litterally have to SHUT the door and it will sometimes stop your ears up. this tight cab equates to MUCH less noise then my Sierra. it just feels more solid.

2. Take a look at the edge of the doors on a current Silverado/Sierra. there is NO protection there for preventing door dings when someone parks too close to you and as hard as you try, you still manage to bump their car with your door causing paint to chip off. Toyota puts some sort of guard on the edge of their doors to prevent this, my Sierra did not have this and it was easy to chip the paint.

3. speaking of paint, my Sierra had "orange peel" from day one, my 2004 did not though and my Toyota doesn't. I could have done a better paint job with a rattle can. honestly.

4. pop the hood on the Tacoma and a blind man could change the oil on it. it's one of the few newer trucks that doesn't have some gaudy plastic engine cover that prohibits you from doing any sort of self-maintenance.

5. lifter tick. had it on my 2004 with the 5.3 and had it on my 2011 with the 6.2. never hurt anything but aggrivating as all get out!

6. seats. go sit in the seats of a new Tacoma and that's what the GM twins should have in their mid-level trucks. my 2004 had MUCH more comfortable seats then my 2011 did.

7. transmission clunk. this drove me insane with my 2011. never heard of such a thing and took it back to the dealer 4 times only to be told "oh that's normal". yeah, ok.

8. the buttons, dash, etc all felt much more cheaply made in my 2011 then in my Tacoma. granted the older Tacoma's left alot to be desired but they also didn't cost $48,000 like my GMC did either. Toyota really stepped it up with the new interior with their model refresh (notice I said refresh not rebuild/new model).

9. my Tacoma has storage boxes that are lockable under the rear passenger seat, my GMC had no such thing. I can also fold my rear seats flat, couldn't do that in my 2011.

10. my Tacoma has a rear power outlet in the bed of the truck. comes in VERY handy for running a small generator or power tools or an extension cord.

The million still employed is only using the data available...If true, 1,000,000 on unemployment would have significantly reduced federal tax revenue..Not shifting money around, it all goes to the same place.

60K per year*1,000,000=$60,000,000,000

$60,000,000,000*15%=$9,000,000,000 (normal effective tax rate)

$9,000,000,000*4(years of "bailout")=$36,000,000,000.

These are round numbers and feel free to move them any way that you like...Either way, the bailout came from the treasury and income taxes and the bailout repayment goes to the same place.

Also, unemployed folks generally pay little in income taxes, in fact, many get EITC which is a governement payment...Just perspective, not a statement about anything.

Not justifying anything here, but some of the myopic anti-GM views of all of this has eliminated the bigger picture.

And yes, I'd rather the money be spent here than in some other place...At least some of it has a chance to be repaid in one fashon or another.

OK, care to provide the actual numbers?

As I was told in various college courses--Sometimes it better to say you don't know.

Ford didn't get loans?...that's a lie. Per Car and Driver Jan2013 pg58, Ford has only paid back 2.5% of their loans. Ford has had sparkplugs shooting out, sparkplugs not coming out (3v engines), 3.5 egoboost intercooler problems, 6.0L diesel disaster. All makes have their problems and I drive a ford now, but I would have no problem buying a GM product next.

I don't think Rollings Farms wants to hear any government intervention on the blue oval. As long as he is happy with them its great. I tried out a new Tundra and was not impressed. The seat was not all that comfortable and the dash was all chrome coated plastic... very thrifty looking. I have owned Chevrolets in the past and still have a building full of them. I like their quality, design, and mostly their resale value. As far as I am concerned GM can sell Chevrolet rocks and get a great price for them. The only reason Ford out sells them is because GM has two truck lines and can't combine the sales numbers. Dodge has the cummins diesel.... that is the end of their selling point. If you look at the side of the half ton series it duplicates the Chevrolet design. A Silverado will definitely be my next truck ... after I wear out the present one.

I looked at that chart in 2011 Ram only sold 244,763 trucks.

Something else interesting is Ford quit selling the Ranger because sales were down but they sold 70,832 Rangers and Chevy only sold 31,026 Colorados.

Alright again the bailout didn't really save the jobs.

Ok, you said it so it must be true...Please give me your facts...If you have any.

I'm basing my information on data available...Is the 1 million exaggerated?...I'm sure it is, but what is the real number?...No one knows, including you.

Can someone explain to me how every thread seems to turn into a Ford bashing thread?

Personally, I find the opposite to be true. Any thread about trucks turns into an anti bailout diatribe regardless of the merits of the vehicle being discussed. There are some here that would argue that a literal steaming turd with a blue Ford oval smushed into it was superior to a GM or Ram truck. Truthfully I see almost as much putting down of trucks based on things that have absolutely nothing to do with the merits of the design as I do thoughtful comparisons of competing features. And I don't really have a dog in the fight as I own GM and Ford trucks and am considering the 2013 Ram 3500 diesels.

I would like to think the heated discussions would be for usa or foreign trucks. Then the polite personal preferance discussion after that.

If it were not for Nissan and Toyota the big three would have never stepped their game up.

Maybe someways in cars, especially compact cars but I don't think so in trucks. I thought Toyota always tried to copy the F-150.

Please.... Chevy, Ford, and Dodge were building full-size trucks way before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The American auto companies would have kept up with American consumer demands reguardless. Does Nissan even build a fullsize truck? LOL!!

Edit: I think the big 3 set the pace in the truck market. Where's Toyota's 3/4 and 1 ton trucks?? Looks like the Japs have some catching up to do.
