I think we should let Congress figure it out........they know what's best and always protect the citizens. Maybe we could supplement low income folks with a TREP........tire replacement entitlement program. With all the bad roads and pot holes around the country that we can't seem to fix......we need to make sure all people have good tires so they are safe. Lets work together and solve this problem.....like Congress!

Wow. My sarcasm meter just busted.

It may be good practice, but shouldnt be law. In some states you can not run mobile home tires on trailers, but in florida it is the norm. I personally run a lot of used tires, for money reasons, should they ban resale of used tires too.

Yeah, now how do you know the next state your traveling through does or doesn't have that law.

We have too many state motor vehicle laws now that read different like towing doubles or tag display requirements/different speed limits on the same interstate/etc.

In '00 NHTSA finally came in with fed regs requiring states to use the same FMCSA trucking regulations. Before that it was a hodge podge of different size and weight regulations that restricted many owners and operators to just certain states or had to bypass a certain state. No I'm not for letting a state decide what their regs are pertaining to motor vehicle regulations.

You've convinced me to say "forget it." Let people decide for themselves.

I'm not in favor of any more federal regulations.....but IF they need to make a new regulation regarding tires perhaps they should require the tire manufacturers to build a better product. To me that makes far more sense than making an unenforceable law mandating everyone replace their tires before they're 10 years old.

I can't believe the inconsistency when it comes to tire quality. A friend of mine had all his tires "weathercheck" less than 18 months after he got them. The tires on our 12K equipment trailer have lasted almost 14 years with no checking or signs of deterioration. Will be replacing them soon due to a lack of tread but they handle a 13,000 gross load of hay just fine.

I bet heat plays into this some. We actually monitor heat on our 18 ply airplane tires and as a safety have lead based fuse plugs in them that will melt out if too hot.

The levels of anti-oxidants and UV protectors vary widely, but in a reputable company, they are not vastly out of line with the expected service.

Interesting... While I just love new laws. (Insert sarcasm here). I really love it when others endanger my life or increase my expenses.

The arguement about seat belts, pretty worthless when you think about it. People might think their life is worthless but their death is expensive. No matter how you look at it you will cost someone money without wearing it. Life insurance, family hardships, children without a parent, parents without a child, the list goes on. Will a seat belt save your life every time? No, but you will never know without wearing it.

And as for the tires and state laws, well personally the state laws are a real PITA . Makes it real hard to stay legit.

If you drive enough you will eventualy have a tire come at your windshield. Not a fun sight especially whem it lodges in his car seat. Fortunately only material items were damaged.

I can count the number of tractor trailer tires I have been hit with, any least 15 in ten years.

If people were more responsible, we wouldn't need so many laws. But until then we are stuck with them. I feel for those who candy afford new tires, but for some reason they always seem to have money for beer and smokes. Go figure?

Very true. I was in WalMart today getting my 5 month old some diapers and formula. I seen a couple dip shats getting the same thing. Both had brand new clothes, $200 Tennis Shoes, Iphone 5's, and fresh tattoo's. I mean fresh, like with Vaseline still on them. Anyway I end up behind them in line and they pay with a WIC/Food Stamp Card. I pay with my debit card and proceed to the parking lot where I see them loading the items into a Yukon Denali with what has to be $6500 30" wheels and tires. The fire up the $5000 stereo and proceed to leave with the purchases they just made with your and my money.

Guess its my fault for going to WalMart on or about the 1st of the month. Boy am I stupid!
