What type of staircase did you decide to go with?

A metal one from Stairways Inc out of Houston:
Economical stairways with an exterior finish

It will go from the basement up 10', then a landing on the main floor, then continue another 9' to the loft with a second landing. I went with a 52" wide one and up-graded the balusters to the #310 type and added a brass ball at the top for the pole cap. Shipped it's going to be about $3K.....

I am going to move the computer from the Quonset up to the house today. In order to get internet up there I have to beam it up, so I have installed two 2.4 GHz 24 dBi Die Cast Mini-Reflector Grid Antenna 's that have an 8 degree beam, two new routers and all the cable. I hope it all works but if not I will most likely be in the dark for a while............

Antenna's:
2.4 GHz 24 dBi Die Cast Mini-Reflector Grid Antenna - N-Female Connector - HG2424EG-NF

Radio's:
2.4 GHz 802.11n Outdoor CPE Wireless Access Point - WLAN-LCCPE28-1

We up-graded to Hughes Net Generation 4 (new satellite with DSL speed) and it seems to be working fine and much faster then the old system.

I use a VZ myfi, size of an Iphone, its portable and has a battery, great for trips or camping. Have run 3 computers at once. Its a good choice if you have Verizon. A buddy got one after seeing mine, he pitched the dish, said he would never go back.

Do they count your uploads as well as downloads 24/7 with no free hours during 2AM to 7 AM on the Gen 4?
I got a card for a rebate to upgrade but haven't had time to figure if they are getting the advantage over the old system.
The higher speed would be nice, if it really is higher.

My 24 month contract with Hughesnet just ended. I found out, by my email account being locked, that if you sent out over 500 emails a day, they say you are spamming and the 3rd time, they lock you account permanently. I just got my second warning. Then I found out they count each addressee in each email. Since I send out political stuff to close friends, that the mainstream media doesn't........I get hit. Problem is, I went back and counted emails sent and never went over 400 a day. So I am now thinking about Internet America or Hughes Gen 4.
Does Gen 4 give you unlimited downloads and uploads? Internet America (wireless) has 6Mbps download a day and 2.25 Mbps upload a day with unlimited emails for $59.99 a month. Numerous times more than I current get and for $20 less a month.

When we got online at our property, we talked to Comcast Cable and to our local phone company about internet access. Comcast wanted to charge use $4 or $5K to install a cable 900 ft from the street to our house. The phone company didn't charge anything to run a phone cable for DSL internet and a phone line. Plus trying to work out details with Comcast was like pulling teeth; they were very slow to respond and wouldn't ever commit to anything. Thus we went with DSL from the phone company. It would be nice to have the faster cable internet, especially when I am working at home, but Comcast really turned me off. We don't watch TV so saying no to the cable company wasn't hard to do.

Obed,
Can you find out what cable they use and buy and bury it yourself?

Okay, Hughesnet Gen 4 has a limit, so I am going to go with Internet America.
Hey Rick,
Are you back up and online yet? How about now? Now?
Can you hear me now?

Brandi,
Looks like you are getting download/upload speed mixed up with how many MB of data you can download and up load per day or per month.
The old 9000 Modem plan I have with Hughes lets me download 350 MB per day. There is a one day cushion if you go over that and it is saved if you don't use it. There is nothing taken off the total MB for uploading at the present time.
Between 2 AM and 7 AM you can download as much as the speed at your place will give you with no charge against the daily limit.
None of the speeds are guaranteed and they do vary with weather as well as how much the satelitte is being used by other folks at the same time. ( same as cable ). Also varies with location and how well it was installed.
On the Gen 4 plan you could get up to 15 MBps speed and 40 GB per month data. That is an expensive plan.
the cheaper ones aren't as fast and don't have that much data.
I think, but am not sure yet, that you are charged for both up and down loads on the new plans. The free time may have been eliminated or shortened?
I imagine the home site has more details but I haven't looked. I figured Rick would let us know.
