Small Tractor? ATV? What do you think?

Beware: I started with a $600 john deere garden tractor and I now have a $21000 subcompact with loader, backhoe, ripper bucket, grapple bucket, pallet forks, rear blade, a pile of scrap metal, grinders, welder, magnets, clamps, sand blaster, and an angry wife!

This happened in only 5 years!!!

Take the money you would spend on a tractor and hire a teenager with a rototiller. You could get years and years of teenager work for the same price or less than a small tractor.

I think we need a new forum titled teenager with xxxxx for hire. Then we could compare how to utilize them appropriately

I retract the teenager statement. I do believe a BX is exactly what you need. Chances are good that later, you'll find that you want to buy a bigger chunk of land to use it on and that helps out the economy even more. Then you can buy an even bigger tractor. Yes....I can see it now....now.....now

That's why she is great. She keeps me from spending too much... now to tell her that my motorcycle got a complete rebuild and retune for race gas while it was in the shop for "maintenance and service work"

We have a Kubota bx2230 very useful subcompact 22hp, fuel efficient 3 cyl engine foot controlled hydrostat. Can't say enough about how happy we are with it

there nothing wrong with an older riding mower for garden use i have a 1/2 arce garden i use to use a 18 horse husky with the mower deck removed disked scored rows and hilled the patatos up with it untill i got the case245 compact if you can get by without a front loader i riding mower does fine it takes longer but its better then doing it by hand

JD has a nifty competitor to the BX that is being advertized on TV now. The 1 series, if memory serves. Always good to compare ripe tractors to green ones...

I picked up a B7100 4x4 with loader for $500. Love it, but already see myself headed for a bigger one and more attachments. You'll use it for everything once you have it.

Other than the angry wife (are any not so?), sounds like everything has gone pretty well.

My wife *TOLD* me to buy my BX. My little green STX38 would mow ok, but that's about all. In the year I've had the BX, I've used it to clean up several areas of scrub brush, put her in the bucket to pick apples, carried around firewood, cleared snow, etc. No, not all are angry. Jealous of my time with it, but not angry. :thumbsup:

Well, yes. Why would you think that?

Mine encourages me to spend money when it buys something that makes upkeep of the property easier. That's why I got a new chipper with blower a few years ago, and the Trac-Vac for leaf pickup a couple of years ago. She insisted I spend several hundred for a new longer hose to for the latter to replace the jointed one that was causing plugs this year.
